Sorry guys that I havent blogged for a bit, but its been a busy time. We left Kampong Thom and made our way to Siem Reap, it was an easy bus journey of about 4/5 hours. We hoped that our tuk tuk man back in Kampong Thom was right and that his brother would be able to meet us at the bus station to take us to our hotel. Driving through Siem Reap it was big and busy but a really nice clean modern place. When we arrived at the bus station it was crowded with sooo many tuk tuk's all wanting to take you somewhere. Thankfully our little guy was there with Col's name on a card which he held up, not that you could miss Col with his tattoo's and bald head lol. He was great, his tuk tuk was snazzy and enjoyed the journey through the town, but oh my god, was it hot and that was at 4.30pm in the afternoon, the heat was immense. And the traffic, i havent seen traffic and motorbikes like that, I thought I was gonna die, not because he was a bad driver, as he wasnt at all, but the traffic and no one pays attention to the lights, they just go when they like. But i never saw one accident! And it was the first time I have seen people on motorbikes and tuk tuk drivers wearing helmets! so that says alot. He didnt charge us for taking us to our hostel, and we arranged for him to take us for the next 3 days around the temples. He would pick us up at 8.00am the next day. So excited. Our hostel was lovely and the people were nice and smiley and attentive, it was a refreshing change. I loved Siem Reap.
The next 3 days we had Sok Heng (our tuk tuk guy) take us around all the temples around Angkor, the second day we treat him to lunch. The third day we went 50km to the further afield temples of Banteay Srei and around, the journey was great in a tuk tuk as you feel like your not missing out and 'in' your surroundings, waving at kids etc. I would hate to do it on a coach like so many people, herding you around like cattle. no thanks. do it by tuk tuk is the way to go. It was a long day as the drive back was in the dark, Totally fab 3 days but tiring. I took way too many photos, but mum, you did say 'take loads of pics' so i have! The last day in Siem Reap was spent chilling and walking around the town. We arranged our transport for the next leg of the trip. Phnom Penh here we come.
