Most of today is about The big drive to Phnom Penh. Up early after a fantastic meal which included crab, squid, pork ribs, fresh Kampot pepper, Khmer mojito (with ginger) and beef filet! Oh and a brief visit to Hip Hop a very entertaining night club and a clash of cultures.
Fortified on strong black coffee and banana pancakes. We set off on our cab ride to the capital!
The experience is close to that of a roller coaster. Just when your getting used to the ride something happens. From mopeds to potholes, cows to rotorvators with Cambodian 'Barbara and Tom' and often a host of friends and wares piled on the back of them! Almost everything warrants a honk.
Towns and villages are very similar with wide dust lanes either side of the (if your lucky) tarmac road. It's here the markets and stalls spring up offering fresh fruit and moped tires.
Between the stretching miles of paddy fields, flat and labour intensive, once in a while the wide expanse is broken by a rocky outcrop no more than 10 stories high. But everywhere people strive to control and manipulate the life giving water. Irrigation channels, resivours and pumps all working to grow rice.
Driving in Cambodia is like a window into their society and lives.
