So, where do I start? A lot has happened since last update, and I am very happy to tell you that I will be leaving this jungle tomorrow. It all started by some pretty boring and rainy days off in Cairns, where I met up again with Janina, which of course was nice. She has decided to leave Cairns together with a German guy Henrik in his car on Monday, heading to Airlie Beach where the Whitsunday Islands are situated. They will search for job there and stay there for some weeks, then head onwards to Sydney. And well, they invited me along. I just couldn't resist it. Road trip down the coast in a car with young nice people, feeling the freedom and just see what awaits us there, that's the Australian dream (or was it the American?)!! I have applied for 2 places there, where a couple of hours work will pay my food and accommodation (something called woofing), and hope now for the best. Henrik will then head further down the coast, and I can hopefully get a ride all the way to Byron Bay, where I have my job in the middle of October.
So something like 3 weeks or a months adventure is awaiting me, and to be honest I can't wait to get out of the jungle up here. I mean, I spent a couple of days in Cairns scratching my legs and feet to blood several times because of the bites I have acquired on myself (see photo of my food, it was SO swollen - thanks mum for insisting in me bringing the combudoron gel along), and I think this whole experience was great, but the animal part could have been cut out. Now I cross my fingers for the coming experience and hope it will be hilarious, fun and hopefully not too expensive:)
Another quick thing I wanted to mention is the night market in Cairns. There is a shop where a woman is handcrafting all sorts of things, and amongst others you can get your name or whatever written on a rice corn. I bought a necklace in black leather with a gecko on and a small thing with a white rice corn in saying "crazy" - sort of fits better than angel, or =) I am very pleased about it and the other two girls also made one each - a different one of course;) So despite the rain and the grey weather I am in a good mood, looking forward and hoping to go out with a boat to see the Reef on Sunday. Cheers from a happy Aussie-girl
