So, just arrived "home" to my tiny shed after a nice time in Cairns. It is so on this place here where I work, that I work 4 days and have then 2 days off, so I arrived there yesterday midday and walked a bit around in the very tourist-orientated city before I went to the lagoon. The lagoon is a big pool area down at the seaside, because you are not allowed to swim in the sea (jellyfish and other poisonous stuff). It is very nice there and heaps of people lying around it on the grass. I asked a couple of guys to mind my bag while I went swimming, and wow, it was great!! As I came up again, the sun went behind some forever-lasting clouds, and I could forget about getting dry.
But I needed a hostel for the night, so in soaked clothes I went to the first the best I could see from the Lagoon. It turned out to be a good choice, because even though there are s*** dorms and masses of people and noise, I ended up having a 4 bed-room all to myself with balcony out to the sea with view over the lagoon. The reason was that I paid the 15$ for the 10 bedroom and went there. But there were apparently no spare bed in the room but mess all over, and I went back and pointed out that there was no space for me. So I got this other expensive room without extra charge and felt very lucky!
On my way out of the new room, a German girl, janina, started to talk to me, and we went a bit around in the city, hanging around together and talking. The Cairns Festival started yesterday, so there were lots of singers, dancers and other performances going on in different places on stages. Very interesting and funny, and after some hours of good entertainment, we went to have a good cheap meal in a restaurant with a discount-voucher, that some one had stuffed us in the hand as we had passed by earlier. Later we went to another hostel were she knew some more Germans (all Germans here on the hostels, maybe some from UK if you are lucky) and we made a barbeque and talked a lot and went into the swimming-pool and in general had a pretty cosy evening.
I met another girl, Joanna from UK, in this hostel, who also has applied for some weeks on this ranch were I work, could be cool if they accepts her as well, she was very cool and travelling like me, alone and doing Woofing and trying to get as much out of things as possible. Anyway, we decided to maybe do some weeks together around Brisbane if she doesn't get this here, because she is going to move there and stay there and work. Nice to meet like-minded travellers!
Janina, the German girl is staying here longer, in Cairns and searching for job, so we have already made an appointment that next time I am off (Wednesday), we will meet up again and go dancing, salsa=)
As you can all probably guess, it got pretty late before me and Janina went back to sleep in our own hostel (still had the room all to myself!!), so slept pretty long. At 9am we met in the kitchen and made breakfast and then went straight over to lye at the lagoon - in the shadow. It was so hot even though it was still early. Then I went to buy some water, liquorice(of course) before I got picked up by our "ranch-bus". Now I am back, out here in the rainforest and taking photos of the two tiny small and completely cute new lambs we got yesterday night!! Sweet!
