4th November 2006 - Mount Dandenong
Ha ha, do u like me in my big chair - do u think i've grown at all?? Dont worry I havent really got any smaller (not possible!) I'll explain ......
Today was mega cloudy so we are going to Phillip Island tomorrow instead. Today we went to Mount Dandenong which is about 45 mins from here, u can see the mountain clearly from pauls house. As we drove up it became clear really quickly just how steep it was and how high - its so high up that ur ears pop when u drive up it! But people actually live there in little houses and theres a couple of little towns built into the mountains too - we saw one poor bloke trying to cycle up it - he was collapsed at the sie of the road!
We stopped at the first nature walk track and u can see from the photos that it was beautiful - reminded me of what the Island in Lost looks like!! Didnt see any 'others' walking round tho! What we did see was loads and loads of parrots flying all over and they were the brightest colours of red and blue - they always fly in pairs too! There were huge cockatoos too right up in the massive trees, they move too quick to get any pics tho! I did manage to get some cool pics of the Kookuburra tho (Shel has been trying to get a pic of these for 18 months ha ha!) and a piar of them too! It was so pretty, like being in a big rainforest. It was mega steep tho, my little legs were really hurting and we didnt walk much of the track! Apparently the trees were burnt to cinders years ago in a bsh fire - hard to believe wen u see them now! There were loads of people there having BBQs (In Oz all public parks have gas / elec BBQ equipment out for anyone to use for free). The we drove right up to 'Sky High' - u can see the pics I took in the album. Its a shame it was so cloudy but u could just make out Melbourne City! Now, the big chair at the very top of Mt Dandenong, the story is that the chair belongs to Igor the giant who likes to sit there and take in all the surrounding views, when hes not there u can sit there (they advise u to get up wen he comes back!!) So pretty knackered after walking today and big day ahead tomorrow at Phillip Island, supposed to be sunny!
All thats going on over here is the hype for the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday. Its classed as a public holiday here - yes they all have a day off for horse racing!!! Its huge over here tho! I also found out that they have the Queens Birthday off as a public holiday too - OUR queens B'day - they wouldnt believe me wen I said that even we didnt get that off!!
Sorry if ive rambled on but its been a long day and what with parrots, giants and trees smelling of peppermint i'm about ready for my bed!
