Very hot but also very windy today. Decided to spend the day reading on the beach. Not many people there this morning and thankfully no ancient nudists. Unfortunately Annabel & Benjamin and there parents arrived shortly after us and set up camp right next door. Now this middle class family were on the beach on Saturday as well but thankfully not too close to us. They were quite noisy as kids of 2 & 4 are. That wasn't the problem. It was the nauseating way the parents spoke to them that irritated me. Everything was just right and very polite. That and the tantrum that Benny threw when it was time for them to go. We stayed an extra half hour after they left on Saturday so as to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Today they have come equipped with a beach parasol just for the kids, and when mummy plunged it into the sand without any regard for wind direction, Annabel and Benny learned a new word.
Predictably the parasol took off and flew down the beach narrowly missing several sun bathers before crashing into some sun beds 50 metres away and startling their occupants.
The new word was "s***" with which the perfectly correct mother of Annabel seemed all to familiar.
I stifled a smile and resumed reading.
No doubt my turn will come for chasing some possessions down the beach before the day is out, unless the wind drops.
At 14:08 the ferry from Volos passed in the distance. At 14:26 the tsunami hit the beach.
