22/3 - we arrived in shanghai and it was raining, which it always seemed to do on our first day in each city :( we did a bit of a tour, went to see the bund but was so misty we could barely see across the water. i think it was this night that we went to see the shanghai acrobats, who were absolutely amazing!! everything they did was unbelievable, everytime you thought the stunt was over they'd maek iot even more crazy and spectacular!! they finished with riding 5 motorbikes inside this quite small sphere thing, was awesome!
23/3 - we went looking for a street market in the morning but ended up just walking in a park and along the bund, which was nice anyway cos it was so sunny! then in the afternoon we had a walking tour of the city, where we got a ferry across to the financial district where there are loads of huge important looking skyscrapers, then we walked into the old town, it was a bit of a shock going from one to the other! the old town was kin of how i expected china to be, crumbly streets, communal toilets and lots of live animals being sold in the street, it was really interesting! That night we had dinner then went looking for a pub to watch the football in. I think the first game started at midnight so it was quite a late night, and drinks were quite expensive :(
24/3 - went to yu yuan gardens today, which was really nice, lots of traditional chinese buildings and lakes, very picturesque! and the weather was amazing so was nice to just walk around the gardens for a bit and then walk along the bund back in time to catch another sleeper train, this time to guillin!
