Morning all,

After an 11.5hr flight we are now in sunny (well, pretty grey today, hence the blog writing) Rio. Flew into the city in the night as the street lights sparkled underneath. We found out yesterday that this is down to the ridiculously overloaded electrics in the Favelas, which sort of took the shine off it.

We were greeted by a little old Brazilian guy who offered us hints and tips on when and where to go in the city as he drove us with complete disregard for any road markings towards Ipanema and our hostel. Silvia who runs the hostel is amazing and has offered us loads of advice, now quite glad we forgot our Lonely Planet guide. Went on a pretty hair-raising motobike ride into the Favelhas yesterday and in the night we ate the biggest steaks ever!!!! Just deciding on what to do today as the weather is pretty gloomy.

Our phone is playing up a bit so will be in touch with everyone when we get it up and working. Also will put some pics up soon!!!
