Tuesday was a complete day of relaxation in preparation for our 10 hour flight to LA at 10 that night. It was a shame to be leaving the hotel as the staff were absolutely wicked and we knew a few by name towards the end. The flight to LA went as per other flights, Taz sleeping like a baby and my moving insomnia continued which led to a cracking bit of Jet lag. In case anyone doesn't know, we crossed the international date line, and thus departed at 10 at night on tuesday and arrived in LA at 2 in the afternoon on.... tuesday. We headed to the hostel which was supposedly in a not so nice area of LA but not so nice in LA was absolutely fine. Just in the drive to the hostel, the wealth of the place hits you, cars aren{t really my thing but i've never seen so many flash ones shooting past. We got into the hostel and hit the sack straight away for a couple of hours before heading to a nearby farmers market for a look around. We ate in a 'traditional' american diner which was pretty cool. An early night followed and we decided to go to Universal studios on the Wednesday. It was a great little day out, not so much a theme park but shows and everything and it being the 4th July meant there were plenty of extras going on as well. We got back from that and seeing everyone in their gladrags getting ready to go out and celebrate independence day with the Yanks was a little bit sour for us, having once again found ourselves under age. We had a few beers in the hostel from a free keg and got persuaded to come out and simply get older people to buy us drinks. One thing led to another and we were out to the early hours which didn't help the jet lag i reckon. Having only limited time in LA we were up early to do the traditional tour, we visited the hollywood sign, the walk of fame and finally the movie stars homes. Our guide was a washed up actor whose claim to fame was some involvement in titanic which he didn't clarify exactly, and with a whining american accent, it didn't do any headaches any good! It was pretty surreal when we visited the homes, the driver (Micky ZZZ, he lvoed to tell us) would screech out 'oh my god get your cameras ready, yes you guessed it, it's the gate to the playboy mansion' and most of the minibus started taking photos of the gate, you couldn{t actually see the house!! Taz also swore that he got shown a different playboy mansion when he was in LA a couple of years back!!. On the Thursday night, we met up with a few english girls who we first met in NZ, and met again in Fiji. Our flight to Cancun was at 9 on friday morning, and on our row the seat next to the window was empyy until a rather large american bloke arrived declaring 'honey i{m home' and i don{t think it would be wrong in saying he was probably closer to TAz than he gets to his wife!! He immediately pulled out his phone to show us a picture of his very attractive daughter and we were both pretty speechless as to what he expected us to say!! A short 5 hour flight later (by the end of the trip we will have spend more than 2 days on planes) and we hit the heat of Cancun and headed to the hostel which had been drastically missold to us. It was miles from the beach but right in the middle of the CBD, it had no pool and was full of business men. Their dorm rooms were full so we were upgraded to a twin but that didn't make up for things. We had some fajitas for dinner and then tried to catch up on some sleep. Up early on the saturday morning we began looking into other hotels and found a corker that we could get half price on the web, directly on a beach with the carribean ocean! We met up with another scholar from deloitte and headed to the bar district for a night that did not go down too well, englishmen/women do not mix with tequila!! But that's enough about that, we are in the nice hotel now and plan to the make the most out of every last second! There's a water park i think we'll head to, and also a pyramid like the one above not too far away which would be pretty special. Oh yeah we are going to head to the bullfight on wednesday too, and maybe i'll fit in the breaking of a couple more jet skis!! It{s going to be a busy last few days. Also the computers aren' the best out here so no photos i'm afraid!
