Thought i'd better throw in an update seen as it's been a few days. Not too much to tell about Oz so far so i'll reflect a bit on Thailand. 10 days just wasn't enough there, we could have stayed another 2 weeks and still been short of time to do everything, and if the rest of this trip matches up then it will have been worth every penny and more. A few memorable little things jump out that i thought i'd mention, on the trek staying in as hut in a village playing poker at 2 in the morning by candle light and looking out over there fields with absolutely no other light pollution in view but from our candles, something you can't really replicate in the UK! The river rafting has to be mentioned, with a dukinfield rugby club salute i took over as 'captain' as the 12 yr old phrased it, and promptly tried to take us the wrong way past an island in the river and resulted in a severe bit of river blocking, completely sideways braced against the island. Now that took a while to remedy. Another moment on the rafting was when we were going under a variety of low bridges 7-8 ft above the water so a couple of feet over our heads and lee, our other crew member (he's in one of the photo's with taz), was holding his 12 ft long pole vertically upwards. Needless to say the pole jammed...... and lee forgot to let go, resulting in a bit of a swim. Finally our taxi driver to the airport summed up my time in thailand, he was completely happy go lucky (including with his driving) and he was talking non stop to us with a big grin on his face the moment we stepped in.
Anyway to Oz and sharpish as the money is running out. Cairns is pretty nice but surprisingly small and being back to UK prices is a complete shock!! We are organising to go white water rafting tomorrow i believe (courtesy of the Aunties for me, thank you!). Oz is more a long relax than proper travelling we've been told but will defiently make the most out of it. Hope things are well!Â
