Alrite guys its Taz here, you'll be happy to know me and Andy have returned safely from the depths of the jungle!! We manaaged to succesfully complete 3days and 2 nights in the jungle - it was quite a bit of walking/trekking up and down hills to the various different places so it was tiring, but completely worth it!
On th first day we were taken to a village about 2 hours outside Chiang Mai which was to be our starting point. Upon our arrival at the village we were promptly ambushed by all the children who proceeded to tie bracelets, necklaces to various different body parts (this hopefully explains any girly bracelets me and andy are wearing in the pics). The smart thing to do was give the kids sweets, but unfortunately we had to pay up! Our guide 'O' was quite the comedian and just as we wer leaving the village he called a small boy over and paid him 5baht to say hello to the foreigners. But as the young fella turned and bowed towards us, O promptly whipped the poor boys trousers down and legged it!
When we started trekking it was still quite warm an the ground was quite slippy so it was a bit of a challenge. We were going for about 2hours until we reached the hilltop village where w spent the night. We were bascailly staying in huts but they were suprisingly comfortable. Our guide, 'O' spent the night entertaining us with various songs, homemade whiskey and dirty jokes. The next day we went to a waterfall whihc was absolultely freezing but very nice. Then in the afternoon we went elephant riding. It was quit scary at first but Andy seemed to take to it quite naturally, but paid the price when his elephant broke off in completely the wrong direction to go for a 'number 2' and a bit of a snack. Suprisingly Andys calls of 'whoaaah boy' didnt seem to stop the elephant. On the last day we we went bamboo rafting which was amazing - but we were slightly hestitant at first when we realised a 12yr old boy was 'captaining' our raft. However he was verygood and proabably kept us alive!
All in all it was a really good experience and certainly gave us the chance to be at one with nature, some of us more than others.....
Anyways were off to bangkok tonight then flying out to Oz on sunday, so until the next time.....Â
