Howdi from Dodge City.
We arrived at 7am on the Amtrack train. It was pitch black and we didnt know where to go, being in such a small town there were no taxis waiting train arrivals outside! The old boy station master took us to our hotel and so all was well.
Dodge City. for those who dont know it is a historic town known for its cowboy heritige and lawless gun fights. There is the Boot Hill museum which has been restored to how the old town used to look with the old saloons etc. Unfortunatly as it was winter there were no gun re-enactments or the dancing shows but it was well worth the visit anyway. There is also the Boot Hill cemetary where some of the old cowboys were buried. It is so called because they used to be buried with their boots still on!
We had a tour in the Dodge City trolley which took us out to see Fort Dodge where military vetrans now live - it is a 6 - 8 year waiting list to live there. We saw other interesting parts of Dodge City.
They have a memorial to 9/11 and so we visited that. It is at Liberty Park. They have the twin towers as water features and rubble from the disaster is on display.
It was a shame we were here in winter as it would make a great visit in the summer. I (Andy) want to come back then.
The town was also great for a cheap meal. We had a 12 oz steak meals (2 nights running) for 5 pounds - bargin!!
Having problems with loading photos on as the computers have been too slow, hopefully they will be on soon.
