We arrived in L.A. on the plane, it was a complete nightmare getting the shuttle bus to our hostel in Hollywood. after waiting ages for it to come, the driver then asked for the exact address of where everyone was staying so he could put it in his sat nav!! we were stationary for ages while he did this and he didnt seem to know any loaction in L.A. himself!!!
Our hostel was the most basic we have stayed in so far,we had 3 bunkbeds in our room and the male and female bathrooms where on different floors meaning grace had to walk upstairs!! The first night we had the room to ourselves and then we had a Swedish couple with us, Ida and Michael, they were both really nice a nd friendly.
The night we arrived there was a film premier 'Dan In Real Life' starring Steve Cattrell (aka Evan Almighty). We missed him going in, but watched everyone else, none of whom we recognised but was good watching it all being set up.
We went on a tour of the Hollywood homes and saw the Hollywood sign, our tour guide tried his best to get us to see a celeb but no luck, however......................... away from the tour we did see a celeb! our very own Tim Vincent!!!! of Blue Peter fame.
The highlight of my time in L.A was Disneyland! (Grace), we went on the Indiana Jones, bobsleigh and log flume which were all really good (Grace). I (Andy) felt it was all abit kiddie. We met Mickey Mouse (after a 20 minute wait) and Eeyore, the parade was the best part of the day. The floats were of Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Mickey Mouse and friends, Tigger and Eeyore and Tinkerbell. They all had dancers at the front and back of the floats. It all lasted for about 20 minutes.
We had a tour of the Kodak Theatre which is where they host the Acadmey Awards (Oscars). We found out how the got the name "Oscars" and sat on the seats the film starts sit it.
We visited the Guiness World Records museum which had lots of amazing facts which were good to learn.
We were glad to be leaving the USA because of the tipping (not rubbish dumping but money for "good service'). I (Grace) was pretty miffed when we went out for dinner at a place called Pig N Whistle and all we had was a main and a drink each and got charged 15% automatically on the bill - what a cheek! Then when paying they asked if we wanted to give an additional tip - dont they know the British dont do tipping?!
We then left the USA bound for Fiji on a 10 1/2 hour flight, losing a day and arriving tired!
