Hello again
Let the catch up continue...
So we had no address for our hostel in Singapore (Sleepy Sam's), it was 6.30 in the morning and it was already touching 25 degrees! After hauling around our bags in every which direction for a while we finally came across an internet cafe and managed to find the address for the hostel, which was only around the corner! We finally stumble into the hostel about 8.30 to be told that we would need to hang around for the 'boss' to turn up at 10. He eventually turned up but told us that because we hadn't sent a confimation email after our initial booking email that he'd given away our beds as he didn't think we were coming! Needless to say we were not impressed! After a few choice words we managed to get the following night booked but needed to find a place for that night and having been unable to sleep on the 10 hour flight and the +5 hour time difference, I think the guy could see we were about to boil over. And to be fair he did help us find a place for the night.
We couldn't check into the new place until 3pm and so the guy let us leave our bags and we wondered into the 'centre' to get our bearings. However by this point we were knackered and ended up falling asleep in a park! But it all worked out in the end and the accomodation was fine.
We decided to go to Sentosa Island which is literally a theme park island. We had to get across there by cable car which was pretty good. We had a good wonder around and went up the Carlsberg Sky Tower, a 130m high revolving platform with some great views. We also went up the Merlion statue which was again pretty good. The Merlion is the symbol of Singapore, it has the body of a mermaid (to represent the fact it has a very busy working harbour) and the head of a lion (to represent an ancient animal seen on the island), hence Mer-Lion. Abit of history and culture for you all there.
The rest of the time we spent shopping. Singapore has about a million shopping malls, one after the other, street after street. Now this may sound great to some of you but even Ali got fed up! It's all there was to do! Overall we enjoyed Singapore, it's very clean, up market and the transport fantastic, the London Underground could learn afew things from there MRT system! However, with only spending a couple of days there we seemed to be abit unlucky with timing. We walked for ages to the Marina to find everything had just closed, this was only about 10pm so walked home quite disappointed only to realise that another part just down from the Marina was 'the place to be.' Oh well.
So after 3 hot days in window-less rooms (which is very disorientating!) we hopped on abus and headed into MALAYSIA...
