After all my hassle with health I spent some final days recovering at my friends steve and sharons place and finally took off again last Friday.
The aim was to head towards Rockhampton hitching all the way.
It only took an hour before my first lift picked me up and took me from Hervey Bay to the Bruce Hwy. ( that's the main hwy running north/south along Queensland from Brisbane to Cairns.
My second lift took another hour and that lift dropped me at the turn off to Bundaburg which I had already decided I was going to skip.
And then I waited, and waited and waited the sun was hot and I was starting to get burnt and at that point I would have accepted a lift anywhere just to sit down and get out of the heat.
But after only 2 and a bit hours a combi type van pulled up, I couldn't see who was inside too well because of the glare untill the passenger wound down their window.
Imagine my pleasant shock when I could finally see that the van was full of four German backpackers three of which where Beautiful , young and blond females!!!
The fourth was the male driver.so they picked me up and off we went over the next few hours they explained in very poor English that they were going to a town called "1770" which wasn't as far up as rockhampton but still a fair way.
We all got on really well and soon they were suggesting for me to go to 1770 too.
Now who am I too say "No" to three beautiful foreign wemon.
So pretty soon we arrived at this place I'd never heard of. When we got there the driver pulled up in the centre of town and I got the hint that this was the end of my ride. Mabey he thought I was going to "mow his lawn" ;)
Anyway I thanked them all told them I'd see them around town and headed for the first backpackers I could find.
When I entered the backpackers the old guy behind reception looked me up and down asked me where I had come from and promptly told me they were full.
I started to get a bad feeling as I had experienced this type of behavior before in Qld where Australian males are basically black banned from backpacker hostels.
So I made my way to the next backpackers called "Cool Bannanas"
And I was allowed to stay it was so nice to put my backpack down.
So I went for a walk around town known as Agnes Waters which is right next door to 1770.
It's a very small town of 3000 people half of which is a fluctuating tourist market of mainly 20 somethings backpacking from over seas.
Nearly every business in town is earning from the backpacker buck and I suspect the town only came into existence as a tourism venture.
But the place is beautiful it's the last place north you can actually swim in the ocean and not be eaten by a crocodile or stung by a box jelly fish and so they have surf boarding lessons and just general outdoor backpacker activities.
I got some groceries from the store and headed back to the backpackers. After a short nap as I was exhausted I prepared sausages for dinner and started meeting more forign good-looking 20 somethings as well as a few guys :)
Then I went upstairs for an early night and you will all be glad to hear nothing bad happened to me !!!!
That's right,
I didn't get rushed to hospital in the middle of the night.
I wasn't made to work for a Queensland drug cartel mixing chemical toxins together .
In fact I even had a really decent sleep!

Michelle So now you are time travelling, you will never cease to amaze me! Glad you got a good nights rest.
Andrew I guess I should have mentioned that "1770" is the "NAME" of the town named by Leutenant (Later Captain) Cook when he sailed up the east coast of Australia IN 1770.
Ruthie sounds like your having fun :) i like your photos !!!!!
Andrew Thanks Ruth !!! I am having a great time missing all of you though I can't wait to play/beat you at some games of backgammon in a month or so. Lots of love from your big Bro, Andrew
