Hi guys!!! yesterday we went to the tank museum :D. The tank museum was a bit of a drive away but well worth it! The museum had tanks from the Great War (world war one) to present day. The first tank every made was from Leonard divenche but it was only made out of wood not heavy metal and steel. The reason for making the tank in the Great War was because of the trench warfare. Trench warfare is a form of warfare that consisted largely of trenches that protected infantry from small arms fire and sheltered them from artillery. because both sides used this method the war became a stale mate until tanks came along. The first tanks made only had machine guns and not the large guns that fired massive shells like today. In the museum they had tanks for all kinds of jobs. One of my favourite tanks that weren't just used for blowing up stuff was the Sherman V Crab. The Crab was a variant of American tank called the Sherman, on the front of the Crab it had a spinning bar of chains also called the flailer ( look for the photo ) the reason it had the chains was for taking out mine fields and debris by spinning the chains at high speed like a garden whipper snipper ( it also made a gory mess if any enemy was caught in its way! ). But my favourite overall tank was the German Tiger Tank ( Sadly they didn't have any King Tigers My very favourite tank :( ). German tanks dominated the war until the Russians refined their T3 Tank ( witch a version of is still in service today ). Another downfall to the German tanks in Russian was they attacked Russian in winter and at very cold temperatures the diesel in the German tanks would turn to jelly ( meaning they wouldn't function! ). To witch the Russian tanks used petrol and powered through the could. Overall I loved the tank museum and defiantly go back!!!!! :D
