At the Istanbul airport at six in the morning waiting on my flight to Dublin. I'm glad to be going to a country where it won't be so hard to talk with people.
First day in Ankara my host gave me a whirlwind tour of the city. We went to see his wife and then his best friend, who was drinking whiskey. Got home and my host left for the weekend to visit his dad for father's day. So I had a big apartment to myself.
Next day I walked around the city. Saw the museum of Anatolian civilizations which wasn't as good as everyone said. Then I took a taxi to Ataturk's mausoleum, which was really good, with gigantic panoramic paintings depicting Turkey's passage to independence and memorabilia of Ataturk, the country's founder, like George Washington. You're not allowed to photograph any of it though. The paintings are accompanied by sounds of battle.
Picked up groceries on the way home, snacked, napped, and joined some hashers for a few beers. Next day packed and hashed, went to a party at one of the hasher's great apartment and then had an early night.
Dublin's supposed to be dry today but cold and rainy for the next few days. A bit trepidatious about driving a stick left handed on the left side of the road in a country I've never been to.

Sandy The driving a stick part will be easy! It comes naturally. Aiden is loving your photo's and is glad you are leaving Turkey as he heard about some killings there on the news and was worried about you.
