Now sitting on a plane from Amsterdam to Helsinki and being distracted by the amount of leg room these KLM planes have, I'm worried I paid for a first class plane.
Anyway, up we got in the morning to head to victoria coach station for the second day in a row. Amy failed her challenge of navigating the tube stations for us. In the absence of coffee, her brain does not send any signals anywhere in her body, maybe a case study to be had there! I am also hungover right now and a lack of sleep, so I am going to waffle on.
So we had a very entertaining tour guide today, although yesterday's guide had a tendency to tell a joke with the straightest face it would take a little while for us to get it. Maybe half the stuff he told us wasn't true, but we will never know. So our tour guide may have been 4ft tall, but she made up for it. She was informative, but more importantly, entertaining. She reminds me of Billy Connolly's humour, going on very long tangents and then realizing that she is waffling on.
The long trip to Bath was definitely worth it. Amazing city full of so much history, ESP the roman baths, unfortunately the weather is not worth mentioning, oh, oops. the architecture of the city was out of this mind, and the history equally as impressive dating back 2000 years and founded by the Romans.
We then headed to Stonehenge. Strange how it just sits on the side of the road, you get this feeling that their should be a golden driveway and it should sit atop a high hill or something. It was fascinating, but I did rush through it as the winds were astronomical coming off the plains. I think if I jumped on the spot the wind would faceplant me into the stone. I saw this little 3 yr old (im guessing) Asian girl in her pink thick jacket (she kind of looked like a marshmallow star). I said to Amy "I could imagine her flying past us on the freeway as we leave", sine the winds were so strong. I refused to look at it from the other side as I sear the winds were stronger on my face then when I sky dived. Which I am keen to do again, maybe July 2012 back to NZ is my plan, stalkers welcome, as long as its not Belvedere off Good Morning Australia (long story......stalker!).
Ummmm, yeah. So then we went to Salisbury and were told about the history of the church with the world's largest spire, and the only English church that is purely gothic design and not a mish mash of different styles. Very cool inside. Although my highlight of the day was the picture tagged to today's blog. As Amy and I left the church we looked up at the many church figures carved in stone on the side of the building (some of which were controversially replaced with replicas as the old statues were so worn). We both made an uneducated guess, that perhaps the statue on the end didn't belong. It is a black man (I'm not racist am I?) in a suit, holding a coffee. Two conclusions were made,
1) I don't think this statue was made in the 13th century (I think that's when the church was built, u know what lets say somewhere between 0AD and present day). Of course this conclusion was made because (oh I just thought of such a racist joke that I can't put in, I actually laughed to myself and I'm on the plane on my own, oops). I'm sure they didn't have coffee in take away containers back then, that's the dead giveaway.
2) conclusion number 2, was we need to go to the pub, "The Lazy Cow" cos we have 15 mins to have a drink (responsibly of course) before we jump back on the bus.
Coincidentally, the girl who served us had an Aussie accent and asked us where we were from. We realized we shared being Australian, coming from Melbourne, and even the fact she is from chadstone. Freaky much! Anyway back on the bus and back to London we go.
So Amy's challenge #2 of the day was also unsuccessful due to her napping on the bus she was too tired. I think her nap counted as a sleep, so her brain needed a coffee again to turn on (for those who dont live with Amy, she really does need a morning coffee to function). Hopefully this morning she managed to learn the tube for her flight to Helsinki, I'm not gonna know until I get off the plane in Helsinki and she should b waiting.
Oh god, this is going on for too long. So the night escapades meeting up with Alison (Irish friend), Maurits (pronounced "more hits") and Marcus (Insert something here). We had drinks at a number of bars and failed to get into heaven nightclub (which was shut) and G-A-Y nightclub as the line was too long. Well bed at 3am (I think) and was at heathrow by 8am, I think that's impressive. Haven't lost anything yet, except my dignity after some of my dance moves last night. Cherrio then (which actually dates back to Georgian times when you would have two servants who would carry you in your box and the servants were called cherries, hence when you were ready to leave you would say "Cherry Ho" as in time to leave.) ummmm, ok bye.
