Checkout was fairly early, but at least I had more sleep that night than the one before. We had a couple of hours to wander through Amsterdam. So we visited Anne Frank's House (or in Dutch Anne Frankhuis). It was a great experience and worth visiting for anyone there.
From there we had coffee next door, and once we saw the traditional pancakes on the menu, we had to try them even though we were definitely not hungry. Scales off limits for 6 months, me thinks! They were awesome, and we were chatting to a random woman from Australia that heard our accent and were drawn to us. We also made two more friends, you guessed it, two teachers. Shaun and his wife, whose name escapes me, damn I'm such a rude p**** both PE teachers from Lismore.
We also visited the National War Monument and got to witness some of the locals who dress up as werewolves, Freddy Kruger or Death so they can chase away anyone who may have had too many space cakes (of which I didn't try any, I'm not that bold). I didn't visit any coffee shops, which are not the same as a cafe, don't make that mistake.
We also visited Nieuwe Kerk (or the New Church) a 15th Century gothic basilica. Clearly it is fairly new, especially by Australian history standards. Amazing Gothic architecture.
Eventually we looked through a few tourists shops, saw the Apple store manican (who was just a perfectly chiseled man who coincidentally was standing still in the window, and freaked us out when he moved). We also witnessed someone moving house, this time with a ladder up to the third storey window with a shelf that rolled up and down the ladder. We now believe that bad luck from walking under ladders must have originated here, as the set of shelves they were moving were not attached to anything, and was larger than the shelf it was traveling on. Falling furniture would surely be bad luck. Picture is attached.
Anyway, we met the crew back at the meeting point and jumped back on the coach for our trip to Germany, St Goar more precisely.
