So in case you missed it, go read Rome day 2. I know it's long, but it's a story I will be telling for a very long time to come. WHEN IN ROME!
Everyone was tired and hungover from those experiences. Mel was still in hospital as they weren't going to discharge her yet, so we had to leave without her. Although she did get the train to Florence so she met us later in the day to many cheers and happy faces. It was so good to see her, and know that she was okay.
We got our group photo done overlooking the city. It's great how we have all bonded and really have an alliance to each other after only knowing these guys for a week. I have also become far more comfortable speaking Italian and remembering more than I would think from my 11 years of Italian at school. My memory is pretty bad, but I was impressed.
Anyway we were taken to a leather demonstration. This is where I spent $480 AUD. No, I didn't get anything leather. I knew from day 2 on the trip that I was to get a puzzle ring and a nomination bracelet. Steve (our tour guide) has both, and he told us about it on day 2. I knew they were my thing.
Firstly, the puzzle ring was made so Kings could give it to their wives. It's four rings that weave in and out of each other, so if the wife was being unfaithful and took her ring off, it would fall into 4 rings and she would not be able to put it back on again. It is an intricate puzzle and no I'm not taking it off in fear that it will break apart. Haha.
Anyway the nomination bracelet. It currently had 15 flags in order of the countries I have visited in my life so far, although I forgot to get Austria and they are getting in Singapore soon, so I'll have to order it in from oz. it's my version of a pandora lol
Florence's history was amazing and we did a walking tour around. The Duomo was spectacular, and to think the guy who made it was 23, and he had never built a dome before. So why not build the world's biggest, and heaviest dome. St Peter's basilica is copied from the Duomo. All very cool. We wandered around for a bit then headed back to the accommodation. To prepare for Space Disco Odyssey.
So we all got dressed up and were taken to a group dinner with two other contiki groups. Was such a nice dinner with unlimited wine, which as always is dangerous. After dinner we went to space disco odyssey, like I mentioned, is featured on jersey shore. Music was pretty good and the club was also pretty cool. My memory was not the greatest, a few too many wines I think. But I have been told I danced up a storm and my wallet was not very empty so that's good. Although I also, apparently, fell asleep in the cab. Woke up successfully this morning (probably still intoxicated) and nearly left without my passport, only a last minute pocket check made me search for it. So all successful.
We are now 10 minutes out from Lucerne in Switzerland. I cannot wait to get off the bus. 6 hours of bus time today, well done Enzo!! We are mostly feeling the effects from last night, so I nice night in we are looking forward to. Then Paris tomorrow!
