We arrived into Melbourne on the 5/3/07. It took us about 30 hours to get from Ghilli Trawanga to Melbourne. We checked into a hostel for about the same price as we would pay for a beach bungalow in South East Asia. Not happy about being back in the developed world!!!!! On the Monday we went for a walk around the city centre and had a few drinks in the bar next to our hostel. One of the first things you notice about Melbourne is how clean it is. There is not a spot of runbbish anywhere. On the Tuesday we went to Melbourne aquarium. We did not really like the Aquarium as it cost $24 and their was not a lot of interesting or exciting marine life. We were hoping to see great white sharks and such things but what we got were jellyfish, stingrays, loads of tropical fish and average sized sharks. Had a few drinks down by the river in the evening. Wednesday was a full day of tourist activity. In the morning we went to the MCG and had a tour around which was really good. The tour lasted about an hour and you basically got to see everything in the stadium. Pete then went on a tour of the Rod Laver arena which was right next to the MCG. In the evening we went on a tour of Ramsay street. At the start of the tour you get the chance to meet a "celebrity" Our "celebrity" was the guy who played Darcy in neighbours. Both Pete and I had no idea who he was and when it came to our turn to have our photo taken with him we politely declined. The tour guide accused us of snubbing Darcy. The tour takes you to Erinsborough high, which is a small functioning school, and Ramsay street itself. Ramsay street is tiny and because so many tourists come to see it the residents have had to employ a security guard. All the houses on Ramsay street are worth a million dollars and some of the residents no longer have to work as they get enough cash from the company who makes neighbours. At night we went out into the city for a few drinks. We left Melbourne on Thursday and got a train to Sydney. It was an overnight train that took 14 hrs. We are currently in Sydney staying with Alastair Taylor until we find our own place. I will not be updating the journal as much now as we won't be doing anything exciting for a while.
