On the journey from Devonport to Hobart the landscape was pretty impressive (I don't normally do scenery) a mixture of England, Africa and something else that I couldn't put my finger on until it dawned on me that it was the colonial feel of Bisley Camp - so I felt at home then! Weather here is good, sunny most of the time but a bit nippy in the morning and evenings.
Likes about Hobart - everything is in english, loved the tour of Port Arthur prison ruins (and scenery on the way there) learnt a lot about the transportation history, wasn't enough time though because of the time to travel there. Liked the river trip that I took on my first night here (which I was sold when I booked the Port tour) turned out to be exceptionally good value for money especially as I now know that eating here in the evening is not an easy task.......
Dislikes about Hobart - almost everything seems to shut at 5pm and the place becomes a ghost town, so what places there are to eat are not the sort of places I feel comfortable in. So last night was takeaway chips on a park bench, which was quite nice but not quite what I had planned. HATE phone cards they couldn't make them more difficult to use if they wanted to, to start with I can't read the numbers on the back.... must get eyes re-tested when I get back (should have done it in Samui) but it's ok today I have bought a magnifying glass ... elementary my dear Watson
Today I have a free day so have explored a bit futher, daytime is good in Hobart lots of cafes and have found an internet place which is better and a bit more reasonably priced that elsewhere. I use the internet not just to email but to arrange transport ie ferries etc and accomodation. Still much more expensive that Thailand or Singapore (I now realise I was spoilt in Bangkok) - but I have found that I have spent more money in 3 days here, than I spent in 3 weeks in Thailand!! Doesn't on the face of it look expensive but to see places because of the distances tours or somesort of transport is required and that soon adds up. In Singapore I just walked!! Think that I might give Ayres Rock a miss, I am not that bothered about seeing it. But we'll see ............
