Well well,
Filippa and I have now reached Tartu, a university city in the south of Estonia, just as charming as Tallinn and our last stop before crossing the border to Latvia.
We are staying at a rather cool hostel called Treviseks, meaning cheers in Estonian. The owner is canadian and his friend who helps him is british. They were backpacking through europe and fell in love with the town, so they transformed a flat into a hostel. I must say that I have more the impression of staying at a friends place rather than a hostel, which is quite nice actually.
Our trip from Kuressaare here to was quite long, though rather nice, as we saw much of the country, little wooden houses and forests (Half of Estonia is covered with forest). Kuressaare was a really charming and quiet town, you could just feel that the rythm was so much slower. It sure was a nice place to go after Tallinn.
We did experience something quite unpleasant yesterday evening as we walked back to our hostel. There was a man who was so drunk that he very unelegantly fell down on the road and pulling himslef together stood up and walked in a very funny way. That man was incredibly drunk. The guy from our hostel told us about that sad part of Estonians. They drink until they drop, and they do not stop until they nearly can not stand. There is a dry law, where you are not allowed to drink from 10 pm on the streets and I was wondering if it was made to avoid these situations, because he was not the only one I saw that drunk on the streets.
Tartu is a really beautiful city, and it seems like there are only students living here, which gives the city are more young profile. They even have their own Pisa tower, if I can call it so. The building which houses the art museum on the main square also seems to be falling any second, and is actually quite pretty to.
Now Filippa and I are really looking forward to go to Riga. We have a bus that leaves at 6.30 from the "busijam", so I guess there will be no partying to night...
