Wow. Vienna was stunning. A really beautiful city. It was much more elegant than Bratislava, bigger of course and much more charming in my opinion. We stayed at some of our friends in Vienna, telling us about all the good spots not to miss and we had some fun evenings going out.
Rosina is actually a school friend of mine and she took us to a very nice restaurant/bar where we met some of her closest friends, having a fun time and drinking wine mixed to water (a very common drink down here).
One of her friends was very enthusiastic about hearing from Copenhagen, a place he had wanted to go to for a long time, and also he admitted, speaking on behalf of every austrian gentleman, there is nothing prettier than austrian girls wearing a dirdnl (traditional clothing in Austria). Something rather fun is that we did see many wearing traditional clothes in the streets and even the young daughter of the house at whom we stayed trowed a party where the dress code was «Trachten», traditional clothing. Eventhough their dresses were «pimped up» and looked more like sexy fashion dresses with high heels and didn't really remind me of traditional clothing.
So much for that, Vienna also is the city of music (as you probably already know) is also the home of Mozart, and the home of the philarmoni orchestra, which is has a very good reputation. Unfortunately we did not go to the free open air concert where the philarmoni orchestra was playing in Schönbrunn (Well known as Sissi's summer palace) but we saw it on the television, which actually is a much better way of watching a concert, as you sit comfortably in your sofa with a nice cup of tea.
Speaking of Sissi, we did go to Schönbrunn to visit the palace, at least, I did, Filippa was very satisfied with the outside approach of the castle. The inside was beautiful but a littke to crowded, and looked like a smaller version of Versailles. I must say that you haven't really been to Vienna if you haven't seen Schönbrunn.
It belongs to the Austrian soul. (I'm serious about that).
Thinking of this gentleman who was very keen about dirdnls, something he also mentioned was the austrian balls. They should be just as unique and stunning. Although it belongs to a more middle and upper class society, they should be amazing, something they are very proud about. Just imagine, a barok setting with mirrors on the walls and chandeliers, beautiful costumes, music that makes you feel that you are in heaven and dances that make you dizzy... not bad eh?
We also got the chance to eat some national dishes like gulash, the famous Sacher Torte and Apfel strudel, which are all recommendable.
This morning we woke up in Budapest, a city we are very eager to discover, and you may hear from very soon!
