Hi All,
I'm not sure when I'm going to have alot of time on a computer again so this will be what I've done n a little bit of what I will be doing.
NY was a good night, celebrated in true style as germans do. Lots of beer, & lots of fireworks. Its actually kind of scary that young drunk people are able to buy & set off fireworks. accidents do happen, but thankfully none on Monday night where I was! It makes the Pt Vincent fireworks look a little lame when the whole town it setting them off from their backyards, & the sky is covered with different coloured lights!
The next day was very low key with us all purely playing catch up. I think tho after staying up late that night my body clock finally settled down & now I'm sleeping quite well.
Wednesday I went shopping in Munich with my host mum, Karin, & bought myself a ski-jacket & a watch (as I was silly enough to leave mine in Australia!). We also went to Geschwister Scholl Platz, & saw part of the memorial at the University. I know for most of you that means nothing, but briefly, Hans & Sophie Scholl (brother & sister) started a resistance group against Hitler called 'the white rose' who printed & distributed pamphlets against his regimen. They were executed by Hitler & this is their memorial. The reason this is cool for me, is because I spent all year 12 german studying this topic, & I finally got to see it.
That night I went out to dinner & to the movies with Lisa & her friends for Franzi's birthday. Suprisingly I actually managed to actually understand most of the film we went to watch which I was quite happy about.
Thursday we went to the alps to a place called Frasdorf where we walked for about 1 and a 1/2 hours up the first mountain to a little restaurant where we ate lunch. We then had the pleasure of sledding all the way down again which went much quicker than the walk up unfortunately. We also drove home via Chiemsee, which is the biggest lake in Bavaria, however it was freezing cold & we just missed the last boat. The boat takes u out to an island that is in the middle of the lake, & on this island is a castle built by King Ludwig. I suppose I might just have to come back to see that!
Friday was back in Munich for the afternoon, & this time I climbed the 307 stairs (not that I counted) to the top of the St Peters Church for one of the best views over Munich. The photos just dont quite capture what you are actually able to see from there. However the weather was nice to me, & I could just see the alps in the distance!
That night we went into Dorfen to a place called 'Soafa' where I caught up with a couple more people who I haven't had the chance to see yet. It was great just to sit & chat, even if chatting for me in German is still quite an effore. I am definitely improving again though!
Finally yesterday, Saturday, we caught the train to Salzburg in Austria, & spent the day strolling around another beautiful city. I love Europe already, everywhere you go there is so much history & its all just so beautiful. Definitely beats the Mount Lofty view of Adelaide.
& No, sorry Jen, again I didnt go on the Sound of Music tour. It goes for 4 hours & we didnt quite have the time, but it is still on my to do list. I did none-the-less see the church, castle, & gardens where some of the movie was made!
Unfortunately for Lisa & Nora, today is the last day of holidays for them, so they've got work to do, & I'm taking the opportunity to catch up on my emails & let u all know what I've been up to!
The plans for the next few days is to go to school with them, & see the others I havent had the pleasure of seeing again yet, & perhaps when I get bored of that I will simply go shopping in Dorfen. Thursday at 11.30am I fly out of Munich to London & then begin my tour on Saturday.
There is a plan of my tour in the first blog on this site so u can follow my where abouts there. As I said at the start I dont know when I'll have the opportunity to update u again. Watch the site for photo's tho.
Until then, stay safe & have fun as I will.
