After an epic bus journey of 13hrs followed by a boat from don sak for a further 2 and a half hours we reached the port of Thong sala in ko phangan. At the front of the port the was a mass of people desperate for you to use thier taxi for some special tourist price, which might i add, was WAY overpriced!!!
As leanne and Chris had been to the island before they decided we should take the short walk out of the port to one of the many restuarants that lined the top of the street for some much needed grub!
If i remember rightly, i was handed a leaflet on the way out of the port for what looked like an amazing beach resort with swimming pool, spa, beach side huts, the works!!
Haad Graud Resort - All can say is that the swedish guy that owned the place either has a pair of rose tinted glasses on 24/7 or has a masters degree in photoshopping for his leaflets! This place was so far from our expectations we even had to double check we were at the right place!Hence, we only stopped one night, and that was because we were in the middle of nowhere with nothing around for miles!
The next day we took a mountainous trek in the midday sun in a desperate attempt to find some form of civilisation and of course new accomodation. Our saviour came in the shape of a small thai guy called Tom.He gave us a really good rate on his beach bungalows in Haad Yao that were so close to the sea and lovely views in every corner, so we checked in that same day!He sent a "taxi" i use that term losely, to collect use and our stuff from our previous place. Now when i say taxi, it was a motorbike with a sidecart, think wallace and gromit but made from any peices of scrap metal he had to hand! There was only room on this tiny death trap for two people at a time so poor old Tom had to make two journeys. He returned for Siobhan and i, but as the place was at the bottom of a VERY steep dirt trak, Toms little bike more than struggled to get up it, it actually slide back down the hill with us in the side cart.
We suggested to Tom it would be best, and safest if we hiked up the hill and met him at the top!
Haad yao bungalows is where we met john and jo, chris and leannes friends they met earlier in their trip. we had 3 nights in Haad yao then decided to move down to Haad rin where they hold the moon parties, to do this chirs hired a moped and took me down to chose accomodation. the next morning chris and John hired a jeep to collect all of us with our stuff and move us down the island to Haad rin and our new accomodation Coral Bungalows. Thjis place is known on the island for its pool parties.
We chilled here for about 4 nights, had two pool parties then it was the night of the Half moon party. Set in a clearing in the middile of the island it was like nothing i have experienced before, so after cheap drink at the hotel and putting our war paint on Chris, leanne, jo, john and me went to the half moon party. Siobhan decided it wasnt for her and stayed back at the bungalows.
Next morning, with heads still banging we had to be up and ready to board our boat to ko samui.
