Ok so this is our 3rd day in bangkok and after all the horror stories that i have heard about the place i have to say i quite like it!
We have met up with chris, leanne (his girlfriend) and a dutch girl called suzie, and spent the last 2days with them which has been good as this is their second time in bangkok so they understand how everything works and point us in the right directions.
Today we had red thai curry for breakfast provided by our hostel, very strange first thing in the morning but i have heard that chilli's keep the mozzies away so keep the chilli's coming i say!
After breakfast we met up with 'the crew' and decided to take a tuk tuk to two temples. It probably took about 25mins for us to finally find a tuk tuk driver that would agree the price with suzie, who, might i add, is a VERY feisty dutch girl who will not take any crap! All the tuk tuk drivers like to take you to a 'friends' shop to look and maybe buy something so that they can claim free petrol from the shop owner, the dutch girl wasnt having any of this and wanted a direct journey with no stops. well, we finally agreed that we would make 1 stop and not buy anything which he seemed happy with. First temple was cool, not too busy, couple of photo opportunities then moved on....to his mates shop. It turned out to be a suit shop where they tried to con us into buying a handmade suit for 70 pound and will ship it back to UK for 65 pound (work that out!) within seconds they realised we were not in there to buy and ushered us out as quickly as possible, this didnt go down well with the tuk tuk driver who, apparently, has a deal with the shop as to how long we spend in there, so.....we had to make ANOTHER stop to a jewellers this time!Siobhan made a quick purchase, and the drivers were happy to move on.
We then drove to the sleeping bhudda temple to have a look around and, of course, more pictures, then to our utter disbelief, when we returned to the tuk tuk, the tuk tuk drivers has gone! We quickly realised that the drivers had made enough commision on siobhans purchase that they no longer needed us and just left!
From that momment on our british pride got in the way and we decided we would walk back to the kao san road, and not give another tuk tuk driver the opportunity to do us over again.we had to endure about a 20minute long walk in the blistering heat from the mid day sun followed by a thunderstorm and lightening show, but luckily no rain!
Well we have had a change of plan to our next destination and have decided to join leanne and chris in a trip down to kho panang for some much needed beach rest followed by a half moon party on the 27th.
