Hello Everyone!
So...I arrived safely in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo yesterday evening. Since taking off at Heathrow I have done so much.
We stopped off in Brunei and had an 8-hour wait. So we took a guided tour around Brunei. We went on a boat down the river past the largest water village in the world. It even had its own fire station, police station and school. And it seems like despite being on water, it does need a fire station as a couple of the houses had burnt down last month!
The boat cruise was amazing (i use the term cruise loosley!) We saw promoscis monkeys which are surprisingly cute despite the large sausage shaped nose. We also saw a snake, some of the group saw a croc but I missed it. Was too busy looking at a log. We saw a giant lizard. I cant remeber the name but it looked like a comodo dragon.
We also went to the Sultan Museum which was incredible. He is so bloody rich!!! Everything he owns pretty much is made out of gold. He has about 4500 rooms in his palace! Crazy! But a very loved man...they dont pay tax out there and have cheap petrol so he treats his people well....shares the wealth!
At the minute we are staying in a really nice hotel (Tang Dynasty) in Kota Kinabalu. Was so nice to stay in a proper bed after trying to sleep on the plane. Apart from the toilet overflowing at 1:30am and then receiving a phone call at 3:30am reminding us we had to check out (wrong room!) its lovely.
Went to the islands today. The one we visited was called Mamukit and we went snorkelling. Saw (and got bitten by) some pretty cool fish. Although it was jellyfish season so was a bit wary! Was lovely though, the island was beautiful, white sands and blue seas. Got some photos but takes too long to load up at the minute. Didnt want to leave....it was like paradise!
Going to Rasa Ria tomorrow (another luxury hotel). We will meet up with Albert there and learn about the culture and orangutans. Cant wait! I hope we see some orangutans as well coz they are kept there. But we'll see. We finally get to work with the orangutans a week tomorrow. One of the girls who is with us says they are lovely and giving them baths is a bit of a challenge as they dont like water. They put their hands and feet on the edge of the bowl and refuse to go in! Cant wait!
Having a brilliant time! Its been fantastic and havent even got to the orangs yet (the best bit!) Will try get on here again soon and update you again! Maybe i'll get some photos up too!
Hope you're all good back home!
