Last night the girls I met said they were seeing the city with a driver & invited me to go along. I couldn't say no, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to see the capital city of this small country. I headed down to breakfast & met them there, then we left soon after. Our driver for the day had an Arabic name, but to us he was Michael. First thing we did was head to Citadel, an ancient Roman city which is in ruins due to earthquakes & destruction. We saw so many Roman influenced structures & artifects as well as a theater which is almost identical as the one in Rome! It's crazy how Jordan has so much Roman & Greek influence, I didn't know there was that sort of history here!
After the ruins, we drove downtown which is very cramped. The houses are so close together & from afar look like Lego! I have never seen so many buildings together, all over the many, many mountains of Jordan, and there are buildings everywhere. Little Lego like places. It's lovely to see actually. After we had driven around for a bit, we drove to Salt City, a very large (and VERY cramped) shopping area. Not very touristy, and we saw creepy things there, like while goats torsos stripped of the skin. It was horrifying really. We didn't shop very much because none of the shops were what we wanted. Then it was lunch time! We just got takeaway, and found a lovely green area to have a picnic. Our food turned out to be awesome! It was chicken & bacon in its break with chips & a Pepsi :) yum yum!
Our driver asked if we'd like to go to this shop called 'Dead Treasures' which is mainly beauty products from the Dead Sea but also offered souvenirs & heaps of other stuff! I got some products, and also a very beautiful, real pearl watch. Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE pearls. They were sooo expensive but sooo worth it! Not long after we headed back to our hotel, using up a full day exploring this beautiful city.
I headed up to my room to meet my new roomie which had moved in while I'd been out. Her name was Christina & was an American. It's great, we got on so good from the get go! We talked for the hour & a half we had together before heading down to the lounge for our meeting meeting. We did the usual forms & insurance & was informed we would be hitting the town for dinner & sightseeing!
We headed out & caught a taxi downtown, and went to this ally way where we would be having dinner. It looked so dodgy but is apparently really good, which we found out. We ate traditional falafel with hummus, chilli, olive oil & onion. I wasn't a massive fan, but still enjoyed the experience. After that we headed out to the town, where it was filled with shops. So many things to see! It was so fun! We were out for a few hours before catching a taxi home & getting ready for bed & the next day - which included the Dead Sea!
