Wednesday 14 October
We head to the tour bus first thing. It's a beautiful clear sunny day. We get some breakfast from the supermarket in a mostly closed still mall and enjoy it in warmth and quiet. We decide on a tour bus and buy tickets. Off we go around the city. The guide tells us it's only about 60min. We decide to do round one with no stops. We have a small break at the end of tour one to sit in the park awhile. My legs are so cold from the open top bus. Round two: lots of stops. We get off and walk up monument hill. It over looks the city and has war monuments and an observatory. We catch the next bus to the museum stop, but actually spend a few hours walking up the crag and surrounding hills. An awesome view. We check out the palace through the gates and then wait to catch the bus again. We just left to walk, when the bus arrived and we hurried back. We stop at the museum of Edinburgh and the museum of childhood. John Knox's house is now a story house and cafe. There are so many gift and tartan stores. It's over kill. Don't know how they all survive! We walk back to our hostel via a supermarket and pick up supplies for dinner and breakfast. Stir-fry here we come. I miss vegetables and cooked meals!
We relax after an early dinner and then leave for a ghost tour at 7pm. It's a big group, but interesting history. A horrible history to be sure. So pleased to shower and go to bed! Walking has worn me out!
