Tuesday 22 December
We do survive the night. Getting out is not appealing! But, I actually think it's colder inside than out. We go down for breakfast and meet an English man who has done the base camp tramp. 10 days. It's a big commitment! Breakfast doesn't look much, but is surprisingly filling. Once were done we head back to our room. We lend our charger to the English man. He left his in Kathmandu. I warm up under the covers and do some research. The wifi is so strange in how it will load our messages and even you tube, but web pages are so slow and faulty. I'm not sure what to make of it. The owner/manager told us since the earth quake the wifi is now fibre and is very good. Malcolm goes for a walk up the hill. Eventually I drag myself up and get ready. We head out into the sun and it's bliss! We walk through the small settlement and down a jungle trail. We pass a few ppl collecting wood. The forest seems pretty similar to at home. There is an old man whom comes out a trail. He wears jandels and has a stick. He seems to be gesturing and trying to communicate something. But we have no idea what. It surprises me how hot it can be in the sun and chilly in the shade. We join a road and start to make our way back. We stop for lunch and get a stunning view of the mountain ranges. Very majestic. We pass lots of hotels and accommodation. Some look like they will be impressive. Some have impressive views. We buy some instant noodles just in case we need them to cover us over from meals. Back at the hotel Malcolm has a nap. The sun sets just after five so we start heading up the hill to the tower. It feels a long way when I'm feeling ill. We meet the owner coming down the other way in his car. He asks us if all is ok. We get there just in time. It's like we are on a hill surrounded by massive mountains. I chat briefly to a couple from Christchurch who point out Everest to me. By the time We wander down it's six and we order dinner. There is only one cook today because the grandmother of the other one passed away. We order a bit more than last night. We wait in our room while it's cooked and it's ready in about an hour. We enjoy it and chat with the owner and he tells us about his experiences as hotelier and how he wants to improve it when the embargo is lifted and things get better. He tells us the TV works all the time despite the power loading. Good to know. He uses solar during the day as back up. He has a friend or family member in NZ and asks if it's true there is no crime in NZ!! We set him straight unfortunately. I tell wherever there are ppl there is crime. Once in our room again we check out the TV and get ready for showers and bed.
