The extra leg room was not needed Again there was an empty seat in the middle, me at the window and a guy with zero desire to exchange any words. Which was perfect, except turns out he's a really really heavy sleeper and I had to use the washroom desperately lol After shaking him a number of times, pushing him fully up right once and even daring to turn up his head phones using his remote () I talked to the stewardess to make sure I wouldn't get in trouble for climbing over him using the arm rests; he didn't wake up at all. The meals were gross and mediocre at best. On the last flight it was steamed rice and fish with a stale rice cake but this time the fennel chicken, soggy steamed spinach and bland mushy mashed potatoes that could not be choked down. I couldn't eat the gross bread for dinner or breakfast even after trying to use all the butter and salt and pepper on it lol thank goodness for the salad and fruit, and eggs, potatoes and yogurt for breakfast. I changed time zones again but have found I'm really not bad at adjusting. Dustin, Jason and Scott are napping right now but it's 6pm and I know if I do I'll be out for the night and out of whack so I'm writing to you instead :)
This is my first time traveling where the mother tongue is not English. On the way over I was looking at the ads with people in them trying to guess what they were saying. I almost felt like it was a secret. The language barrier is hard but with some patience, smiles and a lot of hand gestures things happen. My celiac card translated to Thai has been helpful so far!
Walking out of the airport it hit me and more so walking down the street. Although not as much as I expected the air is hot, muggy and laced with a vast combination of smells. I was going to say aromas....but they are definitely smells as you take the bad with the bad and hope for some good!
The people have been nice, I spent a lot of silent time with the cab driver while he tried to find the hotel after having me print it out for him on a newspaper. I got nervous because I thought he was taking the newspaper out to read while driving lol
So far I've eaten lunch, seen a couple of streets lined with vendors, had a 1 hour foot massage, a 1 hour Thai massage, swam in the pool and had a shower. I know, I know. It's rough
The hotel is $18 a night, a little more but around what I was paying in the UK but here theres AC, a pool, private rooms with your own toilet and shower and they supply you with towels The massages were 420 Baht (B) which works out to ~$15 after tip. I've never experienced anything like it and can't wait to go back again tomorrow Everyone was falling asleep but I forced myself awake because I didn't want to miss the experience....I did well until the last 20 minutes. At one point I looked over at Dustin sleeping and thought, how can he do that? He had one hand out and pressed against the wall, the other on his chest and a little Thai man sitting between his legs moving them around and massaging his inner thigh, how can you sleep with all that going on?! I have to admit it was really hard to keep my eyes open as long as I did.
Now to wake these guys up and continue my never ending quest to find food
