From Borneo we spent an unexpected night in P. Bun where there is little to do but watch as much Sons of Anarchy as possible to get ready for the "jaw dropping" season five when we get home
The whole day was really kind of a gong show lol Everyone only took cash, even the airport which had no ATM so we had to borrow some money back from the Eco Lodge guide who was helping us until we could find an ATM. We found one only to exceed our daily limits and still owe more lol thank goodness for the back up HSBC account we remembered and dug through the backpack for.
We decided to see the town and do some shopping at the shopping center....which really isn't for tourists lol the cab driver told us we were downtown on the main street at the same moment I saw a rooster crossing the road that should paint a bit of a picture!
No problem, the new plan was to sit poolside with drink in hand! When Jay asked the can driver to stop for some beer and he responded that beer is illegal in that town, we were shocked and horrified. What?? Stuck in a do nothing town in the hot sun with no alcohol?? Lol (I know, poor us stuck in Borneo for a day Could be worse lol) Its legal though in surrounding towns though so you can get it, but at a premium. Ya...it would probably be fine but we don't know how much it takes to bribe ones way out of an small town Indonesian jail so we'll pass on that lol It was quite the experience!
Bali has been amazing and Indonesia is my favorite place I have visited so far; I highly recommend visiting :)
Jay is now also PADI certified; we did four dives with two being at a the Liberty Shipwreck at Tulamben. The dives were amazing; we saw garden eels, moray eels, rays, a tiny seahorse, so many fish and coral, a huge cuttlefish (google it! I think it might be part alien!) and a black tip reef shark!! Jay and I were so excited I swallowed water and he almost swam right into the shipwreck lol
Dinner at the Bali Zoo has to be one of my favorite nights. We entered after general admission to find the dinner tables all set up ready to dine on our four course meal in front of the lions. Everyone was divided up into small groups each with a guide to take you around the whole zoo. We fed the elephants, deer, rabbits, Jacky the orangutan, camels and bear cats. We got to hold a bear cat, a crocodile, and a python. So cool!! We saw a fruit bat close up with nothing between us which was awesome; they are much bigger than I imagined!! We had dinner then during dessert was the fire show. It was $40 more then the general admission and it included transportation which was good because we were about an hours car ride away. Totally worth it!!
We took surfing lessons for two days :) We both did well and were standing the first day We went back the next day battered, scrapped and bruised for more lol Intense workout and that board is rough! Now to try in colder waters lol
There was more animal fun at the Bird Park and Reptile Park. We saw so much and got to hold parrots, toucans, iguanas and a 10 kg monitor lizard. We also saw a couple Komodo dragons which was amazing. I am surprised at how close you get to them! It was an awesome day which included lunch in Ubud at Bali Buddha which has the best GF veggie burger EVER! The gluten free pizza was good too
Yesterday we rented a scooter and Jay got to try driving Indonesia style. I swear he had too much fun weaving in and out of the crazy traffic!! I had fun on the back asking him to stop every time I saw a shop I wanted to go in
Today we fly to Jakarta where we spend our last night in Indonesia Jay will fly one way around the world passing through Hong Kong (20 hours of flying) and I back through Europe the way I came (26 .5 hours of flying); together around the world and meeting back home
See you all way too soon
