Well, its long overdue, but we had a whistle stop tour of Saigon in about 4 days. After we flew down from danang, we chilled on our first nite to prepare for a busy few days.
We managed to squeeze in a day around the mekong delta, which to be fair was not the prettiest or nicest of places to visit a river of well, the whole of South east asia's excreted bodily products, not good, especially when we got splashed with it while on a small raft, we thought we were gonna pick up some deadly disease. We visited 4 islands, unicorn, tortouise, dragon and phoenix, which again were not pretty and a little dissadppointing, but we did get to taste some freshly made bee honey tea, and cocunut Candy made completely from scratch which was pretty cool.
The next day was then spent visiting the Cu chi tunnels and apart from the most annoying tour guide who i was tempted to shoot with my rifel trial at the end, it was pretty cool. We got to go down into the tunnels and crawl around in the most smallest of holes, which had crazily been made bigger for westerners. And as i mentioned, we got to shoot a M30 rifel which was good fun, although it did nealy deafen us.
Finally to finish, we did the walking tour of Saigon which proved more difficult the the lonely planet made out, but we were able to visit the War museum which gave the most graphic pictures and stories of the Vietnam war, its was really quite upsetting, espicially when you saw real life deformed babies which had been preserved in a case in the museum, but thats vietnam for you.
Oh and i cant forget, we did have one absolutely crazy nite in Vietnam, where they had just Won a football match to get into the Semi final of the Asia world cup, It was imense, thousands apon thousands of vietnamese were going wild in the streets with scooters everywhere, we were able to get amongst all of it, and were singing and chating with then, I (Maria) even got interview by a Tv news channel. It was a crazy nite one that is so hard to even describe but maybe the films will explain it better.
To be fair we had some of our best days in vietnam, but were ready to move onto cambodia, Was a crazy and pretty quick visit, but one very worth while.
