G'day!!
after a long and sleepless night in singapore airport we arrived after a 5 hour flight in perth, western australia!
Gill was waiting at the airport for us and drove us back to hers and nick's apartment. simon's parents, gill and nick had very kindly offered to put us up for our stay in perth.
our first night in perth, we both had the best night sleep we have had the whole time we have been away! we both had our own room, with a lovely shower, luxury compared to all of the places we have stayed in so far!
last weekend we drove for about 3-4 hours down to margaret river. we stayed for two nights in a lovely chalet and spent most of the weekend driving round and visiting all of the wineries! we had great fun and you wont be surprised to know that we really enjoyed sampling all of the wine - we are now experts (!!?) we also visited the margaret river chocolate factory and visited some beautiful beaches. we went to augusta point which is the most south western point of australia - we had the southern ocean on one side of us and the indian ocean on the other!! we also had lots of fun wactching the surfers!!
we also visited perth city, fremantle and rottness island. we caught a ferry across to rottness and had great fun hiring bikes and cycling all the way around the island!! we didnt stop the whole way, only to take a few photos and catch our breath after struggling up the hills with no gears! we then had a well deserved sunbathe on the beach. we also saw the famous 'quokkas'.
one of our most enjoyable activities in perth has been learning and playing 'mahjong'. gill started to teach us one night and we are now hooked! we went to play with gill's friends and have pestered her into playing every night since!!
we have enjoyed so much good food during our stay in perth! including fish and chips on the beach watching the sunset, kangaroo and tiger prawns at little creatures ( a brewery) and lovely dinners prepared and cooked by gill, including a great thai green curry and lovely nibbles to go with our own wine tasting evening!! becky promised that she would try the kangaroo... which she did... but her face said it all - she didnt like it!! i quite liked it tho!!
today, our last day in perth we went to kings park which had the most amazing views of perth city, subiaca a small town in perth and then we went to the beach! we were very excited as gill and nick kindly said we could use their body boards! something both myself and becky had not done before! and we had a great time - couldnt stop laughing at each other 'trying to catch the waves'. we got better after a few goes!
we were preparing ourselves for the 40 degree weather here before we arrived, however we couldnt have been luckier, its been quite hot and always sunny, but a nice breeze - so its been just perfect! we have looked at the forecast and the east coast seems to be rainy and stormy - so keep your fingers crossed for us and lets hope they are wrong! we are looking forward to our first stop, cairns, where we will be landing in the early of hours of tomoro morning after a short flight over night tonight.
we have really loved perth - we have had such a relaxing time and really feel re-energised and ready to hit the east coast! we couldnt have had better hosts and are so grateful to both gill and nick who have made us so welcome and really gone out of their way to make us feel welcome in their home and to really enjoy our stay in perth! so thankyou gill and nick!
you may have noticed that we have uploaded some pictures onto the blog now - enjoy!!
all our love and speak to you soon, amy and becks xx
