Hey everyone!!
Happy New Year, hope its a good one for you all!! Its been a LONG long time since I last updated, but as expected the festive season has been CRAZY!! So last time I wrote was just after Christmas Day.....
Om Boxing day we woke up late, surprisingly, and I made Sarah treck with me down to the harbour promising her we would see the start of the Sydney to Hobart boat race, a race that sarah is convinced doesnt even exist!! I was on a mission to prove her wrong. We made it down to the harbour, me feeling all smug, and low and behold.....There were no boats!! Not a single bloody one!! Only the normal ferrys that are on the harbour every single day. Convinced that if we walked to the bridge we would suddenly see hundreds of boats lining up I made sarah walk to the end of the harbour. And surprise surprise, there were no boats!! I was very confused by all of this, and by this time sarah was virtually jumping up and down with smugness proving to me that there was infact no Sydney - Hobart boat race. All sad we headed home, but feeling in a boating mood I insisted we get a ferry up to a closer harbour to our hostel. It was here where we discovered that the boat race did infact exist!! However started a few hours earlier, when we were still sleeping off our goon hangovers from Christmas day!! After our ferry we chilled out on darling harbour, something we do far too often!! and then headed down to Side Bar (The hostel Bar!) something we also do far too often!! We stayed for dinner and then decided it was about time we left our side bar bubble, WORST IDEA EVER!! We ended up heading to three more bars around central, 3 monkeys, Scubar and Cheers. All of which were AWFUL!! we met some nice english people who managed to keep us entertained until about 4 in the morning but all in all, leaving side bar was most certainly a TERRIBLE idea!!
The next few days we just kind of chilled out, booked our flights home, went to the cinema, poor dane being stuck with 2 girls who were purely TERRIFIED by a horror film!! We spent a few days on the beach chilling out and tanning!! On friday night after being treat to a bowl of chips in Side Bar by patrick we bumped in to Anne-Sophie and Matt from fraser island!! It was their last night in Sydney so it was really lucky we got to see them!! Kim also came over to Side Bar with her mum & Nikki and Gemma came out so it was just like the good old side bar days!! Dancing until the early hours until the call of bed became too much for us all!!
The next day we spent with Liz, whom for the majority of the day was still drunk from the night before. We had a very amusing day exploring another hostel near Wake up, just riding up and down in the lift and bombing around on the roof top pool area!! Very funny. We went out in Kings Cross tonight with Liz and all of her friends, but it was actually something of a red light district, which was horrible!! So surprise surprise we all ended back up in Side Bar, again dancing until the early hours!!
Sunday was a day for a Goon and Coon party!! Goon is the term used for a 4 litre bag of wine, which will set you back about 4 english pounds and is guarenteed to make for a good night!! And Coon is the name for some cheap cheese over here. So sarah being the genious she is cleverly came up with the Goon & Coon party, Ozzie for Wine and cheese!! It was a fun party, Sarah, Babs, Charlotte, Dane, Patrick and an austrian wine taster guy. We know how to party!! After party was of course held in....you guessed it.....side bar!!
Monday and it was New Years Eve!! We got up massively early and headed off to Meet Kate, Liz and Laura and Lizs' friend Maz. Kate is the girl I met skiing in Sweden and Laura is her sister. Liz I met doing a back up course in Kielder. Anyway, Kate had to go off to the airport to pick up her friend John who was flying out on his gap year on New Years Eve to save money!! And Liz and Maz had to do some picnic shopping so me and sarah and Laura headed down to the Harbour to meet the boys. We decided to head to a place called Balmain, we were not sure if we would get a good view of ther bridge but we were pretty sure it would still be pretty quiet over there so we wcould get a spot and we were allowed to bring our own alcohol there, something which was viewed as of great importance!! We got the Ferry accross and were surprised to find a fab park right next to the terminal which was completely empty AND looked directly on to the bridge!! Thinking it was too good to be true it took us a while to settle down!! But we had a fab day, picnicing and playing poker and the boys swimming in the Harbour, despite me warning them of all the sharks in the harbour!! At 9 there were the family fireworks, which were fab!! and let us in for a little sneaky peek of what was to come at 12!! Midnight was FANTASTIC!! From our spot we could see 5 of the 6 firework boats along the harbour, all of which were exploding in Unison, of course there was also the bridge AND the skyscraper fireworks, which we could also see!! FAB!! We had a party and then headed back to Sydney by ferry. Walking down Sydneys main street which had been closed off was BIZZARE being as its usually so Busy, and we all compared it to the end of the world!! Cheery times!!
On new years day me, Saz and dane had breakfast/lunch together and then I chilled our in the park with kate for most of the day. We headed back to Side Bar for tea, and stayed for a few drinks before heading off to bed!!
2nd of January and it was time for me and sarah to leave Wake Up and head over to Coogee beach. It was so awful to leave, we have had such a fab time there over christmas and new year and had made some really good friends and we had really settled down there. Most of our friends were leaving around the same time so we had a bit of a sad day!! Lying on the beach reminiscing about how much fun we had had. We chilled out in Coogee for a few days with Kate and Laura and Kim and her mum, just recovering from the whole festive period and working on our tans!! Me and Laura and Kate did a big walk along the coast one day, leaving some of us rather sunburnt and all of us rather tired!! We had a good time in coogee and it was nice to chill for a few days for a change!! Our hostel was nice and homely although there were Maggots in the room!! which I got blamed for which left me less than amused to say the least!!
After a few days it was time for us to head back to wake up!! something we were VERY glad of!! Had a nice day in Wake up chilling with Patrick and Damien took us for a slap up $5 meal at scruffies!!lovely boy!! Went for a night out with Emily, the receptionist we have made really good friends with, and we had a rather crazy night running around wake up in reception and folding sheets and various other amusing things to keep us entertained. The next day I was woken early by emily, both of us still feeling the effects of the previous night spent a few hours bombing around wake up causing trouble and giggling, as usual. I then slept for HOURS and then we went down to darling harbour for a bit of sophistocation with Kate and Laura. Im in love with darling harbour so this pleased me massively!!
On monday me and sarah moved rooms in to a pretty cool big room with some fab people, we did some washing and went to see Otzi the ice man. The 5300 year old guy found on a mountain who me and sarah were VERY excited to see. Turned out it was only a replica which was massively dissapointing, but never mind!! we relaxed on darling harbour. AGAIN. And then we went to meet our friend Charlotte we met our first time in Sydney back in Base hostel. She is living in a lovely flat and cooked us up a really nice meal, something welcomed when you are living on cup a soups and noodles!! We had a good chat and then went on a room night out with Kate coming along too. We left side bar but then returned again where me and sarah found Lenny and Nial, 2 of the housekeepers. We then spent the next 3 hours dancing COMPLETELY crazily with them, attracting alot of attention on the dance floor with Nials bad boy dance moves!!
Yesterday was tuesday and we went snorkelling!! It was FAB!! Chris from the reception took us all out to a beach near coogee and bondai. Me and Laura went in first, it was very hilarious, as usual I nearly drowned because I was laughing too much, something which always seems to happen the instant I enter the water!! Me and laura had such a giggle and saw a few fish. Laura kept making up fish she had seen, I didnt believe her!! Everyone else saw a sting ray but I was laughing too much and my goggles filled up with water so I didnt get the chance to see it. Buggar!! Getting out of the water was something of a challenge and I ended up lying on my back on a rock with my legs in the air being battered by waves, chris and laura were laughing too much to help me but finally managed to drag me to safety!! very funny times!! Sarah and Kate were in next. Sarah saw something yellow but then decided to take safer ground on shore where me and her went on a crab hunt. Kate had a good laugh despite being convinced there were sharks. We moved along to another beach but me kate and laura didnt see much as it was too wavy and all the reef was unsettled. We all headed over to the pub where we were amused by the Swedish boys Odd and Steven. Also by chris who constantly kept asking where people were from if they said something weird or something about mayonaise. I guess you had to be there!! Headed back to side bar for free beers, me and Kate enjoyed our Victoria bitter massively!! Me and sarah then chilled in the room with the crew having a bit of a room party and eating cornflakes, as you do. We then met Niklas and Daniel, our first friends we ever made on our gap year!! We had a crazy night out in Sydney, ending at 5 o clock thismorning when all the bars finally closed!!
Today we are chilling out, as usual, probably going down to the harbour or something of the sorts. We are heading up to Avoca again at the weekend for a surf competition. Staying at rachels house and then in a travel lodge, fancy fancy. After that me and sarah are heading inland to the house of a friend we made in Coogee to stay on his family farm for a few days which should be nice and relaxing. And next week we are off to Brisbane, its about time we started working, oh the irish bar does not know what its got coming!!
Love you all, missing you all but still having the time of my life!!
