So we had already done our 4 hour bendy journey from Pai and were back in Chang Mai! We then had a quick dinner break before getting back to the bus station ready for our overnight bus to Bangkok! We thought we were used to being on buses for 10 hours but this journey wasn't much fun and I didn't get much sleep! Arriving in Bangkok at 5am we then had to get a taxi to the train station and wait for our 6am train to the Thai/Cambodia border! Getting back on transport was not fun and made worse knowing the train was a 6 hour journey! The train was old school, rickety and had no glass in the windows so as soon as we move the hot dusty air blew in for the rest of the journey! On board with us were lots of locals and we got to see where they lived when they got off the track not touristy Thailand at all! Eventually we arrived and had to get a tuk tuk to the border office so we could get our Cambodian visa. We weren't sure of the best way to do it but followed everyone else and gave our passports to the office, luckily they didn't take them far and were soon returned along with our visa! We were wrong to think our journey was nearly over as we queued for around an hour in total with our beloved backpacks to get out of Thailand, then walked 15 minutes in the sun across to Cambodia! Another queue as they checked our passports and fingerprints before finally being allowed in Cambodia (27 hours after we started the journey.) Our destination for the next few days was Siem Reap not the border so we then, after confusion and more waiting, got our taxi for a 3 hour journey to the hostel! We don't mean to moan but this journey took longer than our flight to Fiji so we were pretty tired, when we arrived we immediately decided to blow the budget and booked our fligh But we were soon ready for our next adventure and 9th country,
lots of love Amy and Meg xxxx
