Ciao again!!! Well it's Sunday and about 5:15pm here in good old Florence, Italy. The sun is shining and I'm sweating as usual. Looking around the apartment this morning, it is defiantly apparent that we've been here a week. Dishes are piling up, laundry needs done, and we have no food. Everyone's a little tired today, since we didn't get back from our Verona trip until 4 o'clock this morning.
Verona was amazing. It is known for its historic remains, Romeo and Juliet, and the Roman ampatheatre. It is a city of love. Everywhere I looked, love was apparent. We left Florence yesterday around 3pm. It was about a 3 hour bus ride to Verona. When we got there, we had a few hours to do as we pleased before the opera started at 9pm. My roommates and I decided that we wanted to see the historic balcony of Juliet, from Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet. It is said to be where Romeo once said his famous words to his love… "But soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun…It is my lady, O it is my love!" Upon arriving to that famous balcony, we walked through a passageway, where millions of people claimed their love by signing the wall and pasting love notes. It was really quite something! We also went into the museum where you walk through the house of the Capulet. It still had original frescoes and furniture, and had an amazing view of Verona from one of the top windows. In the courtyard below the balcony, there is a gold statue of Juliet, where it is said that good luck will come after rubbing her boob. Obviously, we wanted some good luck, so we rubbed her boob.
After the balcony, we were all hungry, so we made our way back down the marble streets toward the ampatheatre. Along the way we passed some of the biggest names in fashion, including Louis Vuitton, Dolce and Gabanna, Gucci, and more. After dinner, we took our seats (our stones)in the 2,000 year old Roman Ampatheatre. This theatre is the 3rd largest following The Coliseum and another. The opera was titles "Rigiletto." To be completely honest, I couldn't understand anything that was going on. We were literally the top row of the ampatheatre, and it was all in Italian, not to mention that it lasted 3 ½hours!!! As much as I appreciate the arts, an opera in a different language was hard for me to enjoy. It was an amazing experience though, and I wouldn't have traded it for anything. When will I ever get to experience a Roman opera ever again??? Never!!! After the opera, we headed back to the bus and headed home. When we got back around 3:30am, we walked back to the apartment and basically passed out…That was the extent of Verona, and pictures are soon to come!!! Classes start tomorrow, so I have to go get a few things done! A domaini!!!!
