Besides Paris and London, Milan is probably one of the most important places I've been to that pertains to the fashion industry. Milan was our last study tour with the class which was only scheduled for one day. We decided that we needed more than a day so we chose to stay in Milan for the night. Milan is one of the biggest fashion capitals in the world, and perhaps one of the most important cities in Italy. The first stop of a full-packed day was "Il Cenacolo." This is where Leonardo DaVinci's The Last Supper painting hangs. It seems crazy to think that I have seen some of the most important paintings in history throughout my travels…This was definitely one of them. After we saw the last supper, we headed off to our fashion-related professional appointments. One of those appointments was Il Corso Como, which is a high end boutique that is very exclusive. Any fashion major would be honored to see the store, so getting the opportunity to see it first hand was definitely a great experience. After a long day of appointments, we went to the Galleria, which is an amazing shopping area. The architecture of the building itself is simply amazing. Glass domes and marble floors line some of the most luxurious stores in the world. The original Prada boutique with original fixtures and floors was among them. After the Galleria, we went to dinner at an excellent Italian restaurant and then out to Corso Como to hit some of Milan's best nightlife! The following morning, we started early, since we didn't have too much time before our train left. We went to Milan's Duomo, which is absolutely magnificent! There are really no words to describe how beautiful it was. The gothic architecture alone is enough to make anyone stop in their tracks. We spent almost 3 hours exploring the vastness of the Duomo, including the top, which is nothing like any other church I've ever seen. You could literally walk through the buttresses and arcs at the very top. The pictures don't do it justice. After the Duomo, we had to go to the Armani Superstore, as a requirement for class. It was totally worth it! The store as huge! There was so much to see inside. Too bad I couldn't afford anything there. J As hard as it is to say, Milan was a lost cause for me. I didn't feel that I got to see the best it had to offer. Although I got to see many amazing things, Milan was not my favorite place. It lacked the character I was so used to seeing, as it reminded me in many ways of a foreign New York City. It was not like any other Italian city as it was very industrialized and modern. This is not always a bad thing, however I simply didn't relate to what it had to offer. The fashion was the best part of the city, which for me, is not the best way to remember a city. Had I had more time, I may have felt differently.
