I've figured out that when ordering food here (at least hot dogs, brats, burgers, ect.) you either get a bun to go with it or you get some potato side but you don't get both. haha I don't know why that is but the past few days when I get something to eat and they ask fries I assume that means in addition to a hanburger and a bun but not either or. lol The portion sizes are huge here!!! I ordered a salad with chicken and it was easily enough for two meals. I think they gave me the whole chicken and the whole garden of vegetables too haha. The food is taking some getting used to because I ordered a brat the other day but it was more of a polish sausage which was alright but I prefer American style brats. Their potato salad was more of a warm salad too with like a watered down mustard sauce...a little weird but it was good. Oh and EEVVERRRRYYY drink is carbonated. They drink mineral water which is like club soda I think. Its gross...it took me at least 3 days to find regular water and I just saved the bottles so I could refil them in the sink. Evern their apple juice is carbonated and they drink a TON of Sprite and Coke. Its like every restaurant I go into or street vendor I see the main drink is Soda. Either that or peach tea.
So yesterday we went to the top of the highest point in Graz where an old castle used to stand. Now all thats there is what was left after it was bombed a couple different times. It was beautiful at the top of the mountain though!! Still adjusting and mom and dad left me tonight so its my first night in my room...i mean the closet...
Had my first class of German today...luckily my teacher teaches English at the university too so its easy to understand her. AND none of my classmate speak German either so I don't feel as dumb lol Only one other kid from the USA in my class though. The rest are from Spain, Mexico, Italy, Finland, Turkey, Japan, Korea, Australia. So I have a wide range of people in my class. There's a whole other class of people who don't speak German too because there were about 70 of us so they had to split us up. First day was fun though. Im kind of excited that I have class again tomorrow. I think that might be because it gives me something to do where I can actually talk to other people who can understand me.
This place is starting to grow on me and I'm hoping that once I've been here for a few weeks I'll feel more comfortable.
Bis zum nächsten Mal, Auf Wiedersehen!!
