Hi all, sorry for slacking with the updates, no excuses!
I think the last update said we were off to Brazil, well we made it.
We went from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu on the Argentina/Brazil border. It was a 22hour bus ride but we went over night so it was not so bad. We spent a day on the Argentinian side of Iguazu falls, (huge waterfalls). We got to walk along walkways right up to and out over the waterfalls,it was very cool. We also did a boat trip in which we went right under the falls, and yes we were soaked. Fun day looking all around the area and at all the different falls though.
We caught a bus over the brazilian border to the Brazilian side of the falls, from this side you get a panoramic view of the whole falls, it was pretty incredible to see it from that angle, being up close on the other side was brill but only having seen it from Brazil can you grasp how big and immense the whole thing is.
From there we did another 24 hour bus trip to Rio de Janerio.
We got to Rio to find that Christ the Redeemer is being restored and completly covered in scaffolding, which is a little disappointing but nevermind just one famous landmark we won´t see i suppose. We did take ourselves off to Sugar Loaf Mountain though to look out over the city which was fantastic, the city is huge and spread out, so many different areas but such a beautiful back drop. We stayed in Impanema which is the posh part of the city, our hostel was in between Louis Vuitton and Mont Blanc boutiques, quite posh!! The city beaches were packed whilst we were there and the sun shone most of the day bit it rained heavily every evening. Whilst in Rio we also did a fevela tour. To get to the favela gates we were driven on the back of motor cycles by locals which was both very scary but brilliant at the same time. The favela was just like walking into another world. Thousands of houses/shacks all built on top of one another and so many as far as the eye can see. Brilliant experience, we learned a lot about the favelas and the poverty and the people there.
From Rio we headed to a small surfing town east of Rio for Easter weekend called Saqurema. It was very local, not one other gringo in sight and we had the hostel to ourselves for a few days too. Spent a couple of days on the beach there and then the rain started and hasn´t really stopped since. A few days of rain in the sleepy town made us go a little stir crazy so we set off for another beach resort town called Buzios. It is a lot more built up and touristy but has other people and bars to go to and shops etc. We like it here. We have been to a few of the beaches which are preety and the water os very blue, but it keeps raining so we are trying to get out and about when its dryand back again before the rain starts again. But its still lovely here and we are having fun.
Hope all is well at home, missing you all lots. See you soon xxxxx
