Ok so after becoming frequently frustrated with school computers being wiped moved and change I have a blissful week house sitting with a pool, my own bedroom, DStv and wait for it a full time internet source
YAY!!!
So i am taking this chance to update my blog here as this is so much easier and quicker and makes things better for everyone.
So an update of my 2011
Firstly
January
I returned home from my travels which have been the best thing in the world for me to do. I overcame my home sickness, made new friends and started work with my new teacher with a bang.
I love my new kids in school due to the south African school system we entered half way through the school year which cannot be helped however having to hear Miss Woods didn't do it like that became a slight drain as you are trying to adapt into a new country and environment whilst having to live up to another person's standard.
So i have a brand new batch of 17 gorgeous children. First day of school came with its usual ups and downs tears and tantrums and that was just from me for having to get up at 5:45 in the morning.
The first week flew by as my birthday arrived, I didn't want anything special so we went out and boogied the night away in a very nice local bar called rhapsodies. One of the teachers from school, her boyfriend works there and hence cheap/ free drinks all night including finding R100 so ten squid on the floor meant i left with more money than i came with score!
The weekend was spent relaxing and chilling out after our manic weeks back from travels and returns to school.
The 22nd Jan was the school inter house sports event which meant all members of staff having to attend and points score/ time keep/ measure distances. We then returned to Linda's house and had the most amazing braai known to man. I also converted on the avocado front! Yes we now like a good ole bit of avo.
Next came burns night o what a night as whiskey was drank short bread eaten and the bonny bonny banks of lochlomand was belted out our speakers. That's what happens when you live with 4 scots. So just to continue our theme the next night we had to watch Brave heart.
Whilst in-between all of these stupid weekends I have been able to spend time with some amazing children, one of my little boys would seem to be part of the autism spectrum however trying to make his parents realise that their child needs help is never an easy topic.
Firstly trying to address someone about their child I have soon discovered is one of the hardest tasks in the world to do. I cannot imagine to be on the other side as you think your perfectly able child actually can only see things in shades of blue and only knows certain colours of things is because that is the colour they have been told belongs in that place, but we are learning small doses of ways to help are better than an avalanche.
I am also finding it fascinating as other children who come across as very shy soon come out of their shells and now you can't shut them up they now do backflips across the room and dance to Michael Jackson whenever you put him on.
Not to mention the decision of who is my class sweetheart who all the girls want to hold hands with and all the boys want to be. The class clown has also taken his role being the tiniest little boy I've ever seen and yet the biggest smile that spreads across his face and you can't help but smile at him. He reminds me of the wide mouth frog with this huge cheesy grin and then when he gets told off turns into this teeny pursed pair of lips.
However nothing makes you feel better than coming into work and at 7 in the morning hearing the words MISS LOOOOOOSSSYYYYYY yes said like that LOOO-C and at least 5 children running up to you and wanting you to hug and love them all and you just can't imagine them not. I start my day with that proceeded by playing and watering plants before starting our weekly theme.
This week as in the week of March 28th we are learning about other cultures by looking at clothes, houses food and drink. Let's just say the 3 little pigs can be useful. Drawing, painting and colouring in whilst discussing why someone's mummy has to wear a headdress because of her religion and culture whilst other mummy's don't.
All i can say is a quote from my current book
Experience teaches us that the world is no nursery but one should retain that of one in nursery
That just about sums up January in a nut shell. Remain immature and naive as the world will laugh with you in the good and sob with you in the sad.
Have Fun
Stay Safe
Happy Travels
Miss You
Love You
God Bless
