Meekong Delta Trip
Our trip constisted of many small boat trips through the delta where we jumped on and off the small islands. One island was a bee keeping farm where we got to taste natural honey, another island was where they turned coconuts into sweets and we got to taste and buy (they were fabulous). Another we had a taste of tropical fruits whilst a local family of entertainers sang for us. it was a bit like a poor mans Von Trapp Family if I am honest but it was pleasant. Our guide was a local named Lung who was extremely enthusiastic and talked a lot about women throughout the day,. explaining to us how a lot of Vietnamese women look for foreign men to take them away. he was particularly attracted to a local woman on the trip who was married to a Korean man and called him "lucky man" throughout the trip. If he wasnt cracking jokes about this or Viagra he was letting us know that he knew "scousers" and would reel off the names of The Beatles and their songs.
On another of the islands James the brave held a 6ft python. He said afterwards that he could feel its muscles contracting even though it didnt seem to move much. I touched it and recoiled in horror of how it felt so I gave the holding of it a miss. We also got to taste snake wine which must to most peoples delight wasnt made from snakes blood but simply a pickled snake placed in a bottle of rice wine. Scorpian wine was also available. A nice aperative i thought!
the bike ride was scheduled for after lunch but we got to chatting to an English couple and missed it, Phew. It was a nice trip and the 3 hour boat back finished it off nicely. that evening we met up with our new found friends who were leaving the next day. A good day had by all
