We have been in New Zealand for a very short time, alreday seem to have done so much and made friends with other travellers.
We spent 24 hours on a converted car ferry in the bay of islands. I was rash enough to go snorkelling. I thought I was used to dealing with cold water but got a head ache that reminded me of drinking school milk when I was 5!
We were lucky enough to see several dolphins during our return journey.
I spent the afternoon visiting the site where the treaty between the Maori and British was signed. It does seem that the Maori were tricked or atleast disadvantaged by the translation. The sight afforded great views over the bay and the chance to see some interesting birds, including a macaw and some Tuis.
Our next stop was Waitomo. This village is located in a limestone area, so ofcourse we visited caves. These are home to many glow worms which were a great sight.
Moving south we reached Rotorua. I had a chance to white water raft on the Kaituna, yes it did flip on the biggest waterfall, great fun! We spent the evening walking round the local parks which have many interesting geological features constantly steaming and bubbling. The thermal baths were very relaxing.
An interesting and entertaining evening involved a feast with a local "Maori village".
