So it me again twice in a row and on a roll. So after the fun in Christchurch, we drove to a former French settlement called Akoroa. This was a beautiful small holiday town where all the shops had "la" in front which was very funny. It was quite busy as it was easter so back into the tent we went!! However this was no ordinary New Zealand camp site as at about 630 an ice cream van can along which was wicked.
From Akaroa we continued North to a place called Hanmer springs which is popular for its thermal pools. This was one of the funniest things I have ever seen. About 300 fat hairy Kiwis crammed into 8 large baths all sitting on top of each other. Needless-to-say me and Ali decided against the public show and booked into our own private spa, which was wicked. Earlier on in the day we decided it was a grand idea to climb to a hidden waterfall which sounded good but after a 3 hour climb we both needed the relaxing thermal waters.
From Hanmer springs we drove on our final leg to Picton for the ferry stopping for one night in the holiday town of Kai Kora. Here was to be the final tent stop of the trip (a few tears were shed) and we decided to go out with a bang and got chippies. The only other thing to note was that I got into massive trouble by assuring Ali that there would be cheap Easter eggs available, when in fact they had all sold out!!
