Ok so its my turn already (I am sure that it is getting more frequent! I must be doing an ok job). After the action of Queenstown and Dunedin, we decided to take it easy and headed for the otago peninsula, a small piece of land off the east coast of Dunedin. Whilst here we both turned into a pair of Bill Odies and saw Penguins, Albatroses seals and sea lions. Watching the Penguins come to shore was wicked and Ali thought it was the best thing she had ever seen.
From Otago we drove North and stopped at a town called Omaru. Here is also famous for its penguins but as you had to pay to see them we decided to spend the money on a few deserved pints (It was st paddys day after all). From Omaru we continued North to a sea-side town called Timuru. I was fed up with the tent by now so we booked into a Motel with a TV (wicked), and spent the whole afternoon watching crappy tv shows (brilliant).
Christchurch was our next destination, the most English of all the citys in New Zealand. The first day we spent wandering around the city looking at the main sights. A highlight was the free museum (mainly because it was free) but also because they had an Egyption mummy, which gave Ali the willies and she would not go near it! After a few beers we returned to our hostel. Unfortunately the hostel was full of 18 year old english morons who stayed up drinking outside our window till 5am. So bright and early the next morning we drove just outside Christchurch and went on a gonodla (similar to Queenstown), to the top of an ancient volcano. After a long, tiring walk and ice cream we drove back into town via Brighton pier.
