Alison's African Adventure
Hello!!!
Hope everyone is well!!! I am in Bulawayo atm, the second largest city in Zimbabwe.
It is lovely here, it is really safe too, there are security guards on every street corner, cash machines are guarded etc. Just a really safe place to be. Had some serious misconceptions before I came here, think this is one of the best countries so far!!!!
Well since my last email in Harare, (where I forgot to mention I got a taxi into town on the back of a Toyota pickup!!! So unsafe I know, but you gotta go with the locals!!) (Sorry Mum n Dad!!!)
Yeah we ended up going to the best pizza place between Harare and Cape Town, was full of white people tho, haven't seen so many congregated in one place since the start of my trip, cost us 14million zim dollars for a meal for 6 of us!!!! A whole backpack full of notes!! Was amazing tho, not quite McDonalds (next one is apparently Cape Town )
The next day we headed to the Great Zim ruins, we arrived so late I didn't bother going in in the end. We camped up for the night and got ambushed by monkeys in the morning who stole our breakfast!!! Little sods, one jumped right onto the fire! Ooops!
We then went to Gweru and into Antelope Park, these have been some of the best days so far. I have done so many amazing things!!! And all in two days. Gonna have to do a real quick run down cos hardly any time left on net!!
Went walking with Lions, (had to sign an indemnity first!!) they are 2 years old and I went out for 3 hours. Were allowed to stroke them but they were a bit feisty, they are gonna be released in the wild in a year or so, so they are not pets they come up to my hipsin height!!!just had a lil stick to fend them off!!! One jumped onto my friend and scratched her (not bad tho, she likes the idea of being mauled by a lion - good scar injury!!!) they treat you as part of their pride, they stalk us and other prey on the reserve!!! Just incredible!!!!
I learnt to ride a horse, getting it to canter and then went on a game ride!!! I rode an elephant, I watched the cubs getting fed, I petted a lion cub that was 4 months old, he was so cute!!!
Just all been so good, gonna head up to Vic Falls tomorrow, on the colonial style sleeper train which should be interesting to say the least!!! Hopefully be able to email from there.
Anyway gotta go!!!
Loads love ali xxxxxxx
