Alison's African Adventure
Hello again!!!
Hope everyone is good!
Still having a wikid time in South Africa. Arrived in Cape Town the day before yesterday and it lived up to all of my expectations of being one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Definately a must see!!
I left Stellenbosch really early in the morning two days ago to go on my Great White Shark Cage Dive. Took us 2 hours to travel down to Gansbaai just south of Cape Town where the boat left from. The boat went out to Dyer Island, the only place in the world where you can see Great Whites breaching to take seals in the air. Unfortunately we didnt see any breaching but we still saw some whoppers!!
We put down anchor in a place called Shark Alley and lowered the cage and chucked out tons of stinky fish guts into the water. was so choppy on the way out and this is the only time i have ever felt sea sick - well worth it though!!
Saw so many sharks, i was in the cage for 20 minutes (water was so cold!) or so and must have seen 10 different Great Whites, not all of them were huge, but a couple were over 3metres!! Wouldnt want to be in the water outside the cage with those bad boys!!! There was one huge one that brushed right past the cage, you could see his body so clearly, just enormous!!!
Yesterday then we went to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners from the Apartheid era were kept in Prison. Was certainly eye opening to see, our tour guide had spent 20 years in a cell 2 doors down from Nelson Mandelas. We came back to the mainland and then did a bit of shopping and sightseeing before coming back to the hostel!! Only got 2 full days left now before i come home!!
See you all soon, this prob will be my last update!!!
