So today is explore Rome day..
We decided to go and see the colosseum which is about a half hour walk away. On the way there we saw a place selling the 'hop on hop off' pass for the bus so decided to get a 48 hour pass for that. And why why why, did we not do this before?! Even though people suggested it, we just walked everywhere! So annoyed!! Good exercise and I suppose we saved money though. We arrived at the colosseum and the line was so ridiculous we gave up, and walked out. So glad Carlos and I are alike in our can't be bothered ways. Anyway, we went to the Palestine hill which is right beside it, bought a ticket there, a joint one with the colosseum which means we the get to line skip! Haha legends. After looking all over Palastine hill, which is old ruins, we went back to the colosseum and it's actually really impressive. It's huge and just the obvious age of it is fascinating. The only issue we have is that there wasn't enough information posted around about the history etc. I guess that's why you're supposed to get the audio tours.
We then left to jump on the bus again and go to the Vatican City. We got there and the lines were soooo ridiculous, and it stank, and was filthy and overrun by people, it was 4.30pm by then and we decided to leave and not bother going in anywhere. We can always go back again tomorrow because of the bus pass and try get there first thing in the morning to avoid the lines. Sonya, what was your tip again about how to avoid those lines?
We went to a cafe to get some coffee, and it was only €1.80 so we were happy because we've been paying about 4.50 on average, so decided to take a seat for a bit and have some cake. Shared a piece of cake and had the two coffees and then got the bill and it was €24.60!!!! I asked why and he said it's because we sat down. I'm still fuming! How ridiculous. Stupid scamming Vatican a******s!
Tonight we went to a deli for dinner and yum yum yum salads! That's me from now on! No more restaurants or anything. These were amazing!!! We are trying to work out the rest of the trip, and it's just going to cost too much to go to Venice, so we can't :( so flying back to London on Sat, staying there for two nights then home time! I loved London anyway so am happy to go back there for a couple more nights. Travel tip from us: do not leave booking things to the last minute!! Unless you're super rich... Sigh... Ciao!
