After waking this morning, dreaming very vividly about our plane crashing today, you can imagine I was super excited to get on the plane... Thank god for Valium huh?
Made our way to the airport, and the cab ride there was actually much scarier than the plane ride anyway!
Got off the plane and had to find a bus that would take us to a train station we needed. We had to wait for 45 mins for the bus and when it arrived, people were pushing and shoving to get on and yelling at the bus driver. We had to really shove and try and get our bags on ASAP. People are crazy in Italy!!
Along the 50 minute drive I saw multiple road rage incidents, people pulled over and yelling at each other. Ahhh Italians and their passion.
Got off and had to walk to our hotel, and by far Rome so far is actually disgustingly filthy. I think we seriously might be in the Bronx. There is rubbish littering the streets and people sleeping everywhere on the sidewalk or just in the middle of the walk. Finally got to our hotel and it's an old building where for the lift you have to open the outside cage lift door and then close the inner doors before you go up! So cute!! I love it!
The man waiting here for us was so lovely and is the only one that cared we are on our honeymoon and had a bottle of prosecco (sooooo yum)! I will have to find this brand again! He was super helpful and showed us around our room and all. We have accidentally booked a 4 person bedroom as it was the only one left and it's awesomely huge! Yay!!! Hotel rooms just keep getting better and better..
Across the road is some "no limits, disco sexy" place and next door a xxxx movie place. Could make for interesting characters hanging around.. All in all I'm actually excited to be here and we are really central to everything so am excited to explore after our lazy Barcelona leg.
Went for dinner, food is good, but not as good as I imagined? Bit sad, but Italian waiters were so funny, and were so amazed we're eating at 6pm instead of 9pm? They asked us if we were going to eat again at midnight lol. After dinner the waiter also said we had to try something and bought us out some lemon shot thing. I asked if I shot it, and he laughed and said white people always ask that, but said no, we had to sip it. Really lemony and strong in alcohol but it was nice! Also when they bought out the bill I got given a rose as well. I could get used to that!! Good ploy for a tip mind you.
Italy first day- you win so far! Despite watching dirty old men going next door and men sleeping on the street..
